I occasionally deal with stray or neighboring outdoor cats that come through my neighborhood, some of which do not have a home or primary caretaker. However, it's not always easy to tell the difference between an indoor/outdoor cat with a home and a true stray cat. One thing I want to check for is the presence of a chip, but in years past, chip readers were relatively expensive, and I couldn't justify the cost. However, with the advent of these low priced chip readers, the investment in having this capability in my own home is now within reach.Bottom line: It works. I tested it on cats both with and without chips, and it correctly finds and reads the information from the chipped cats. I don't think this device is industrial grade, and if I were a vet or did a *lot* of work with cats in the "wild", I think I'd want something that would feel more likely to survive rough handling and extensive use. But for my purposes, it does just what I want at a price point that allows me to justify the purchase. So far, I am a satisfied customer.

I had one kitty who chip I couldn't feel and kept forgetting to ask his vet to check it. Long story short it detected both and I'm very happy. Both cats at two years old.

It is essentially a virtual keyboard when connected to your phone. You just need to open any text app or the notes app so that it will put the result of the scan in the app. I got it to verify that the chips were working and that I had the right number for each puppy. Worked like a champ.

Was able to bluetooth this to my phone and use my TagMax app to scan in tags! Works great!

works on my newly chipped dog (2 months ago) but didn’t work on either of my older dogs (3&6 year old).
