Very sturdy, comfortable hammer
This hammer is excellent quality. It, essentially, is 16 oz. with a wooden shaft.Makes it easier to handle, hammer, and hold. The shaft is coated with a shiny finish. This makes it slippery to hold when hammering.I used emery paper and took the shine off. it made ALL the difference. I can now feel the hammer as i use it.The claw is in a good position and easy to use.Recommend this item

Good hammer, one annoying problem.
I like this hammer. It has a good sturdy hardwood handle, and a good head.I do not like the excessively thick coat of varnish or lacquer on the head. It is terrible, it chips then you pound nails in and feels and looks bad. I spent hours filling and sanding the lacquer off, why couldn’t you just put a coat of oil on it that easily wipes off? I wanted a vintage hammer but bought this instead as it looks relatively vintage and it would save me the restoration part, however, i ended up having to do something much worse which took ages and its not even perfect. If you’re looking for a vintage hammer (or a vintage look alike) and you don't want a 1mm thick coat of lacquer that you have to get rid of, this hammer is not for you. If you just want some hammer that you use for general house work every once in a while, i recommend this hammer. I think I'm going to buy a vintage hammer after all.
