ALMOST identical to the Terminator TNP112D systems 12inch sub. Good replacement.
I am not a huge audiophile however I am learning a lot during this, my 3rd, car audio system in my life. I purchased the MTX Terminator TNP112D combo over a year ago, blew the sub in Feb., now I have this one installed in the ported enclosure (1.9 ft volume I think). They are ALMOST identical however the original had a HUGE rubber surround piece compared to the one I have now. I hope to upload some pics. Oh yah, 1/16th of an inch larger mounting area than the original. Sound wise this thing started out very weak, so I spent 2 weeks "breaking" it in. I removed it from the box and in my room I used a computer PSU to power a cd player and the 200w amp that came with the package. I started by playing 50, 60, 80hz tones at LOW volume a couple hours, then bass heavy rap/techno/R&B at LOW volume an hour or two each day for a week. Week 2 with the sub mounted in the box in my room I would play bass heavy music 6 to 10 hours a day at LOW to med. volume. Each day before turning it off I'd push it to a moderate level for a few minutes, TRYING HARD NOT to top out it's ability, and each day that level seemed to increase! Now I can honestly say I am very satisfied with this sub. I use a DUAL XPE2700 400w amp from wal-mart on it with both channels bridged, 175wRMS I believe. The bass is nice and can get loud but I have the amp slightly under it's rms, prob. close to 150w. Hopefully this will last a long time and everyone out there be cautious when the urge to "see what it can do" hits!

terrible
these woofers are terrible. very over rated, blew them up on 200 actual watts. low level of excursion and terrible motor stucture. dont even start with the sound quality level. they are a disease of a woofer. if you have to have mtx, purchase the flat black mtx 5500s they can put out some level of quality. its an old model though.

Good for small systems
This subwoofer is a pretty good value if on sale. For $40 its hard to beat. I bought this subwoofer because it was the best value at the time in terms of price versus driver specifications such as Fs and power handling.I put this into a 2.0 cu ft ported box tuned to 30 Hz and was impressed by the sound it generated powered by a 400 W rms amp.For a small system i.e. in a car or garage it delivers plenty of volume on 100-200W. At 400 W I believe the subwoofer is reaching its limits and Im afraid it will damage the unit.Compared to my friend's system however, this subwoofer lacks clarity of bass notes. It sounds a bit muddy and it can be hard to distinguish between different bass notes. This could be due to the fact that the 2.0 cu ft box it is in causes the subwoofer to be overdamped... In WinISD the subwoofer performs optimally in a box that is over 10 cu ft due to its high Qts. The manual for this driver specifies a ported box around 1.8 cu ft, which is far too small for this driver; to get decent output and extension I believe you will need to build something at least 3.0 cu ft, which is something to keep in mind if placing it in a small room.If you are looking for super low extension (<30 Hz) or for additional power handling for greater volumes in larger rooms, you will need to look at the Road thunder line-up or at other pricier brands of subwoofers. However, for a small system or if it is your first system, you will probably be satisfied with the output of this 12" subwoofer.
