It's usually a great product.
I had two bad batches but the new one sent is great, what I'm used to. I've bought from many different vendors and for the money this product is the best. A little work breaking down the brick but it's not full of useless stems.

High quality product at a great price!!
I've begun to order all of my hay from Grandpa's Best. Sweet, fresh, and dry. Can be a bit tough to pry apart, but totally worth it. My bunnies love it!!!

Terrible useless hay like crap
None of my animals would eat this and I can't blame them. It smells musty and is impossibly to fluff into any hay like product. Clumps of what used to be dust but obviously had enough moisture to be nasty. I had purchased this and ended up not needing it before the return window closed so I am stuck with super expensive musty grossness.

Very fresh, but crumbled
I bought the 10 pound alfalfa bale. The hay was very fresh and my rabbit eats it enthusiastically. It smells AMAZING and he really loves the taste. But, it is very crumbled, maybe because of the compression. The leaves are entirely crumbled. As a result most of them fall into the litter box and are wasted. This may be inevitable with compressed alfalfa, I don't know. If your pet is not a rabbit, this probably won't be a problem; rabbits are a special case because they eat over the litter box.For a few months this was my baby rabbit's only food. For the last month I've been feeding him a mix of alfalfa and grass hays. Less of the alfalfa is wasted this way as it the leafy bits tend to stick to the grass hay or fall to the bottom of the manger, where he eats them.

Watch the short video! Very helpful.
I bought the very compressed 10lb bale and was confused about getting it out. It is very tightly packed! I watched the short video and I get it now. The video helped me out a lot. This is my first foray into small animals and hay. I just threw a block in the hutch and hoped for the best. Hahahahaha. I will have to dig it out now to “fluff” it.I also contacted the company about an allergy concern. My son has a peanut allergy and I was concerned about any cross contamination. I received an email reply very promptly dispelling my concerns. The hay is safe for my son to be around. Big relief.Customer service is something that creates loyalty. I will be much more likely to purchase from Grandpa’s Best again!Thank you guys!

Dusty and terrible my bun won’t eat it
Buyer Beware!!: This is seriously the worst hay I have ever bought. Yes I knew it comes compacted but I didn’t think it would tear my hands apart trying to separate it. It’s so dusty that I have to wear a mask (I guess that’s one good thing about Covid that I have lots of masks) . Like it is SERIOUSLY so dusty I can’t even explain. My picture I added has the alfalfa I bought from this seller and on the right is the hay I have been buying that I wasq not too thrilled with so that’s why I tried this grandpa’s “best”. My rabbit refuses to eat this even when I mix other alfalfa or orchard grass or even parsley which is his favorite after bananas. My biggest peeve with this is that I wrote to the company telling them how this hay is just unsatisfactory, that it was REALLY dusty. They told me the process they use to compact the hay and how it is less dusty than other brands. Nope. I wrote them back and told them how dusty it is and no response. I am searching for local alfalfa here since I do live out in the country but have had no luck. I really can’t return hay but you bet your bottom dollar that I will try. Maybe this could work for people with different types of animals but I do not recommend it for rabbits. I wish I had read more reviews before I bought it but the price was right. You get what you pay for.

Not what I thought it was. My Fault
The straw is packaged very nice but I thought I was ordering a full bale of hay. It’s not enough to cover the area I bought it for ; to cover my Grass Seed. I don’t want to return it bc it’s my fault for not making sure to order the corrrct item.

The best alfalfa hay on the market!
My three rabbits were climbing all over the package and my legs while I was getting the alfalfa hay out. They absolutely love it. I will always purchase Grandpa's Best. Extremely compact, excellent quality and value.
