Another wonderful book of coloring designs by Kerby Rosanes – UK Version printed on both sides of heavyweight paper
The media could not be loaded. I will attach a silent flip-through video to this review. The book in the video and in the photos are only of the UK version of this book.I first found Kerby Rosanes coloring artwork in his book, “Doodle Invasion” and then again, in last year's “Animorphia”. When I saw that his new book, “Imagimorphia” was available for order on Amazon, I ordered the UK version in a blink of an eye.I really enjoy his unusual look at design and have a really fun time coloring all the bits and pieces that he includes in his work. What is even more wonderful is that as much as I like the prior book, each new book is even better. That is absolutely true for me with this book. It still has a good number of animals in it but it expands beyond them into other design concepts as well. My first two projects included a compass and a clock. I used various coloring pencils as I usually do with his artwork. The UK version of this book is once again published by Lomart. It appears that the US version is once again being published by Plume. I mention this because there was a great disparity between the quality of the two publishing companies with the last book. Lomart was the clear winner. On that basis, I ordered not only the UK version for myself but also for family and friends.I will purchase a single copy of the US (Plume) version to be able to do another comparison but at this point, I will trust Lomart to provide a quality product. It appears to be the same quality both by my tests and by the weight which is exactly the same as the previous book. I will update this review once the US version is available with comparison information. This is what I found in the UK version of “Imagimorphia”:43 Different Designs in a variety of subjectsDesigns are printed on both sides of heavyweight white somewhat smooth non-perforated paperMost designs spread across two pagesMost designs merge into the binding areaSewn Binding which you can cut with a few snips of thread to release several pages at a timeCan break spine to get the book to lay flatAlcohol-based markers bleed throughMost water-based markers bleed through (exception was the brush end of my Tombows)India ink pens left shadows on the back of the pageGel pens did not leak throughColoring pencils did really well with this paper. Both wax and oil based pencils provided deep color and blended well. Hard lead pencils made clear and crisp marks but did not dent the back of the page. The book is made pretty much in the same fashion as the UK version of “Animorphia” if you have that book. What I found that had improved this time around is that my two page spreads lined up very well and I didn't lose too much into the binding area. That is in part to how Mr. Rosanes positioned his designs with less in the middle and more on both of the sides. There are still a few pages where you can create your own doodle work (e.g., the tiger head shot and the feathers.) There is also a search feature in the designs and the key for those items are in the back of the book.

Something different! Very creative illustrations providing a lot of depth without being greyscale.
I've debated buying this book off and on for months. People always post really pretty pictures colored from it, but I haven't been sure it's the right book for me. After reading lots of reviews, I finally decided to order it and made sure to get the UK version. (Supposedly the US version has much lower quality paper.)While I can't say that this book will be -my- favorite book, I can still sing praises to it. The pictures are so wonderfully creative. Maybe a bit weird, at times, but there's nothing wrong with coloring some oddities! The pictures have subtle shading, coming in as hatching. This is not what I'd consider a greyscale book, but has enough "shading" in place that your pictures will pop even if you don't do any extra shading. In my opinion, that should make this book really appealing to a novice colorist. There's also enough detail to add some challenge, making it fun for advanced colorists as well. The pictures contain lots of animals and all sorts of other little things. I like the variety in the book because I am not always interested in coloring animals and flowers (actually, I rarely color animals). It reminds me vaguely of Doodle Chaos, which I've recently been coloring in. There are tons of hidden things to discover as you make your way through coloring each page, which is really cool. It doesn't get boring and you'll have plenty of chances to use your imagination as you color. There's no one right way to color these pages and there's no wrong way either! The paper quality is nice. I'm glad I ordered the UK version because this paper should stand up to lots of colored pencil layers and also watercolor. it is printed double-sided, unfortunately, but has lots of two-page spreads that make that style of printing necessary. Pretty much all of the pictures run into the binding with little to no margin space. I normally get my books spiral bound if they aren't perforated, but doing so would cut into the illustrations in this book. I would avoid using markers/pens on this unless you test them and make sure they won't bleed through. Alcohol markers are never suitable for double-sided pages, but water-based markers or fineliner/gel pens may be okay if you have a light hand. There's a faint shadow of the lineart from the picture on the other side of the page already, so I think dark colors of any sort of wet media will show through at least a little.

Gorgeous
This is a beautiful book with gorgeous intricate art. It is the second in the series by Kerby Rosanes. I got the UK version since the US version was not out yet. I also heard that the UK version has thicker, nicer paper. I cannot vouch for the paper in the US version but I can say that in the book I have the quality of the paper is top of the line for coloring books. One thing I should say to people who are not familiar with the Morphia books is that many of the pictures are 2 pages so if you are the type who likes to be able to color a picture and take it out of the book, or take it out to color it, this may not be the book for you. Also, plan to take a good long time for each project. These are not simple quick works.I cannot wait to start coloring in this book. I am both intimidated and excited to try!

Fantastic imagery glad I got the UK edition. Good paper
Great imagery! I got the uk edition due you see some reviews I read regarding the paper quality of the American addition so I got the UK addition and I love it – just wish the paper was perforated because I have problems coloring in books.Photo is a WIP used Faber Castell Polychromos - I call that all the time and this is very difficult even for me – but very fun to do – can't wait to get into the book itself!!
