The Tenth Good Thing about Barney

Great for supporting children through pet loss
This helped my child (and me) through the loss of a childhood pet. It helped him remember what we loved about our cat, appreciate what she contributed to our lives and talk about the cycle of life.I appreciated that the story acknowledged that people have different beliefs about death without making any claims or taking a position.

My favourite book as a child
My favourite book as a child, and still today. I purchased this book after our kitty became a star. It is a great book!

Lovely story to help young children understand the loss of a pet
We bought this for our daughters (3 and 5) when we learned we were going to lose one of our cats. We read it to them after we broke the news that he had to be put to sleep. We're not religious so didn't want a story about cat spirits watching over us- this book mentions heaven but leaves it open for the reader to decide. In the story, the cat is buried in the garden and helps the flowers to grow. The story encouraged my eldest to come up with some ways to remember our cat which helped her to come to terms with our loss. I highly recommend this beautiful story for anyone needing to explain the loss of a pet to young children.

A timeless story to help people of all ages deal with death of a pet
This is dealing with deep issues - life, philosophical and religious approaches to life and death- and helping a young boy deal with the loss of his cat Barney. The drawings add to the words . Great to open conversations.

Excellent book and one of a selection my Mothers' Union ...
Excellent book and one of a selection my Mothers' Union branch have purchased for using in schools in our town. They are used when a child needs to read it or have it it read to them by a supporting adult.
