The Art of the Brick: A Life in LEGO Hardcover – Illustrated, October 14, 2014

I’m giving the book content a five star review, it’s an insanely good read about this guy who can create works of stunning art out of LEGO blocks! I’m just amazed t how the brain can come up with stuff like this. I’d been looking for a NEW copy of this book for quite sometime, and had hoped that this would be it.I had hoped that being I had bought this book BRAND NEW, the dust jacket wouldn’t be In such poor condition, and remnant’s of a sticker on the front of the book. Look at the enclosed photos, and you’ll see, that for what was paid for the book, the dust jacket should have been in pristine condition.Now just keep in mine, yes, it’s just a dust jacket for some, but for those of us who take good care of our belongings, being that it has been used and abided to some extent, I had expected better. The book itself is perfect, the content is superb, and that’s why I’d had rated the five stars.

I have been following Nathan Sawaya for the past five years. I love art although I have no real artistic talent myself. This book was amazing! It was an "easy read" as each picture (pictures were beautiful) explains its story...sometimes, over time, the meaning changes to the author. I loved his ability to explain each piece but at the same time, letting the reader know that at other times in his life, it has meant other things. I am an assistant supervisor of a vocational school in NY State (BOCES). I went around one morning showing the book to students and teachers and they were totally "awwwed" - One student said "Hey, Mrs. Cobb, do you think you could get him to come here?" I said, that would be awesome but I don't know about that - so what do you say Nathan Sawaya...do you want to do an exhibition at our facility? It is NORTHERN New York and a beautiful place to be on so many levels. I am so lucky to be a part of the lives of these amazing students day in and day out! You have no idea what you are missing, Mr. Sawaya. We have a very high poverty rate (although I don't know it off the top of my head) but I can tell you that "your" art already made a difference in the lives of these students just by me showing them your book. Imagine what it could do if you actually had an exhibition here!

I saw this exhibit live, in Cincinnati in the winter of 2016. The pieces were so stunning, that I truly felt like I was in a museum. I took several pictures at the exhibit, but in describing the pieces to friends and co-workers, felt like I couldn't do the pieces justice. I purchased the book that showcased most of the pieces, and was pleasantly surprised to see the artist in progress, and thoughts and concepts behind the pieces. I highly recommend this book. It is great for people of all ages. It allows adults to stretch their minds to absorb the precise placement and designs, volume of pieces, and originality. It allows children to believe that they can build absolutely anything that they can conceive in their minds. Big thumbs up!

A perfect gift for a lego "aphile". Beautifully done. Talented artist with an eye for the unusual.

I got the book for my grand kids, one of whom went to an exhibit of Nathan's. I know Nathan's mother, and I am very impressed with his art, and his school experience in his biology class. I got the book for the grandkids who are fairly creative, and the one who went to the show was really impressed. So I thought the book would be a good reminder of some of what she saw, and more of his work. But mostly I wanted them to read about the thought processes that went into each piece. It's really a book about life and your thoughts and feelings.
