Great light when bought brand new!
***update 09/29/19***A month after my initial review I turned around and bought a brand new Mag Tac rechargeable flashlight and it has been my best EDC flashlight.Having been carrying and using it every day for the past 9 months, I can say that I have had no problems with this flashlight. I even bought a spare battery directly from Maglite but I have never had to use it... but it is nice to carry around in my bag if ever the time arises for me to need more than just a few hours of battery life. For those of you wondering if it can use and alternative battery for it, the answer is no. Maglite uses a proprietary 18650 LiPO battery that is placed in a special housing. Basically the polarity is switched so if you try to use just a regular 18650 Li-ion battery it will not turn on and you can actually pop the LED or fry the circuit board. I have even switched out the LED housing and used the tail cap of a regular Mag Tac and it would not turn on.I am one of those people that likes to modify my Maglites, over-volting, swap led's, use high-capacity rechargeable batteries, modify the reflectors, and other stuff... but this is the only one that has pretty much been left in near stock condition (I switched the reflector heads with the red Mag Tac my wife has). It works absolutely fantastic for what I need. And with a diffuser lens attached, it makes an absolutely wonderful fill light for night time photos and videos, especially with high and low settings. I use it all the time when my family and I go to Knott's Berry Farm in the evenings. The only complaints there has been about my flashlight usually come from the security personnel at an amusement park. It's either brighter than the ones they use or it's better looking...lol. All in all it's a great short to medium throw tactical flashlight. If you're looking or something similar but with a longer throw, you can always buy a 2 cell Maglite ml50lx. If you add a 3.7 volt rechargeable battery (25500) and a stretched spring, it makes for a great backup flashlight. Or just use the 2 C cell batteries that they recommend.~~original review~~I normally buy my items brand new, but when I saw what is typically an $80-$100 flashlight for only $47 used... I thought what the hell. The flashlight that I got in particular look like it had been somebody's everyday carry for the past couple of years. It did not look like an item that was simply bought and then returned within their refund policy time. I don't think Amazon may have checked carefully enough to see what was in the package and the condition it was in because the flashlight that I thought I was buying:1st of all was not the right flashlight2nd everything about it was dirty, where the rings and inside the flashlight itself was3rd I charged it it worked for about 15 minutes and then it shut off and would not recharge... which is a common problem with this particular flashlight and the tail cap assembly. I removed and tested the battery itself. It had a charge but the tail cap assembly just stopped working.Sadly, I ended up having to return it.I really like how the flashlight looks and feels, but I didn't buy it to just sit on a desk and look pretty, even though it was a used flashlight.I don't blame Amazon, I just think that whoever they got that flashlight return from they did not check to see that what they got back was exactly what it was supposed to be.My lessons learned, I will stick to buying my flashlight brand new... no matter what the price.I give it three stars because I really do like Maglite brand flashlights and I believe this is a great flashlight, but I won't know until I buy one brand new. I just had one of those very rare moments where I was not satisfied with my Amazon purchase.

High quality, Bright, rechargeable flashlight!
High quality, extremely bright, decent battery life, weather resistant, and convenient charger. Highly recommend as a carry light, for emergencies, or occasional outdoor use.If I could suggest any improvement, it would be a low-power LED light to locate the charger/light when power is out. Hard to locate easily in complete darkness!

Amazingly bright, durable... It's a Maglite after-all.
Could not be happier. This is my 4th MagTac (lost one, now I have 3) and it is by far the brightest of the bunch. The other lights are rechargeable CR123 powered and come in around a little over 300 Lumen, this one however is in the neighborhood of +600 Lumen and comes fully charged. The difference is evident. The 'spill' on this light illuminates my whole apartment. The modes are easy to navigate and the strobe function even makes me a bit disoriented and nauseous. It has the same dimensions as the standard CR123 MagTac, but is about 3/4" longer due to the charger. The pocket clip is the same as the other lights. It's durable and secures the light well.I bought this to replace my Q-Beam spotlight (stolen) for it's 12V recharge-ability in my vehicle. I'm a former Medic / 1st Responder and I carry a comprehensive Med Kit in my vehicle. I like this light for it's ability to be used as a spot light, but it has lower light levels and portability (which I love) where-as the Q-Beam didn't.I now have 14 Maglites (I'm a 'flash-a-holic') of various size and brightness. This one is "up there" w/ the best and brightest of my lights. I look forward to many years of use with this fine, highly functional tool. Maglite rules!(I would include a comparison photo, but I don't have a vacant wall and my apartment 'fills up' when I turn it on)

I thought this was the most awesome flashlight I'd ever owned
At first, I thought this was the most awesome flashlight I'd ever owned. The High beam was amazing! The only problem,I thought, was that it had to stay in the charger or else the battery would die after only a couple of hours. That was the first three or four days. Then the battery would die after one hour. The charger indicated a full charge, but at the end of the second week we were getting only five or six minutes of light per charge. Now it won't light at all, and the base indicates that it is fully charged. I've been a MagLite Fan for decades. This is unbelievably poor quality. I've emailed the company, now we'll see if things get fixed. I'll update with their response. UPDATE: MagLite customer services responded to me quickly (Monday am.). They asked a few pertinent questions, such as serial number and detailed description of the problem. They are sending me a prepaid return label for service. I have to admit that it is a real pain in the butt to have to deal with a malfunctioning brand new product, but there is always a lemon in every barrel of apples, I guess. At least they are responding politely, positively and quickly. further update: The flashlight was fixed and returned very promptly. It's been three months of nightly use and it's still working great. I live in a highly wooded area with the occasional bear, coyote and cougar so it's great to have when the dogs need to go outside at night. The beam cuts through the dark. All components working well at this point. I'm back to loving this flashlight...only four stars until it functions well for over a year.
