Every Stamp Tells a Story: The National Philatelic Collection (Smithsonian Contribution to Knowledge)

More of an exhibition catalogue than a celebration of factors that make a given stamp intriguing
I was hoping to get a substantial book with a good number of intriguing profiles of unique stamps through the ages, replete with magnified views of fascinating detail and texts that delineate the personalities and turns of events that produced a storied stamp of exceeding beauty or back story . This book has only some of that and really functions as an exhibition catalogue for the opening of the National Philatelic Museum. The first few chapters are essentially acknowledgement pages heaping honor upon those who made the museum possible.

A Visual Essay of Stamps
Nicely done overview of why stamps are historic, artistic, primary documents. Excellent visuals, well written text. Written with authority and style by the former curator of the Smithsonian National Postal Museum.

Great book written by one of the world's most devoted stamp admirers. Ganz also happens to be a talented student of history and proven author. A winning combination.

Misinformation about book .
Advertised as having 400 pages .In fact has only 137. More like a catalogue . Very disappointing .
