Great Calculator, Lousy Instruction Manual!
I have always preferred the key layout of Canon desktop calculators. For the price of the MP11DX, you can't go too far wrong. The calculator is fast enough to keep up with me and the printout is clear and easy to read.Hopefully, a person buying a Canon desktop calculator will already know its basic operating procedures, because Canon instruction manuals are among the worst instruction manuals ever conceived. The instructions for the MP11DX are especially bad. The manual maintains its sustained awfulness as it goes from one cryptic calculation example to the next. It just doesn't get any worse than this. One of the main attractions of the Canon MP11DX is its Calendar and Clock functions. Judging from the reviews, I am the only one who had a problem setting up the Calendar and Clock. Setting the Calendar and Clock functions was quite a challenge for me because my instruction manual provides somewhat confusing documentation of this subject. The manual's first step in this procedure pictures a key with icons of a calendar and a clock. While this key is actually on the keyboard of the calculator, there are pictures of 4 other keys which do not exist: a "12/24" key, a "Time Set" key, an "AM/PM" key and a "Format" key.*** *** ***UPDATE, October 11, 2013: As pointed out by S. Busby in the comments below, the four missing keys (or in this case, labels) may actually be present on all Canon MP11DX models and I found them on mine. After owning the calculator for over a year and a half, I finally held it under a lamp and looked straight down at the keyboard. Under ordinary circumstances the little black labels printed on the case at the top of the various keys would be hidden behind the keys. Here are the clock-set labels and their corresponding keys:12/24 = Division KeyFormat = Percent/Plus/Minus KeyTime Set = Equals KeyAM/PM = Multiply Key*** *** ***Anyway, if you were unable to set the calendar/clock on the MP11DX by following the Canon instructions, you might want to try the procedure that worked for me:1. Turn the calculator on and press the Calendar/Clock button which is to the right of the FEED button. (One press shows the Calendar and a second press shows the Clock.)2. Select either the Calendar or Clock mode, then press and hold the "Equals" key for three seconds.3. When the first number of the Calendar or Clock display starts to flash, enter the date or time.4. When setting the Calendar, the date will be displayed as MM/DD/YYYY. Use the "Percent/Plus/Minus" key to switch to either the YYYY/MM/DD or the DD/MM/YYYY formats shown in the instructions.5. When setting the Clock, the "Multiply" key switches between AM and PM. Use the "Division" key to switch between 12 and 24 hour modes.)6. After setting the Calendar or Clock mode, press the "Equals" key to lock in the setting.7. Press the CE/C key to exit the setup mode.8. Be sure to remove the little clear plastic strip from the battery compartment located on the bottom of the calculator so that the date and time won't be lost. The specifications say that the battery is a CR2025, but the battery in my unit is a CR2032.

Working with numbers...Try this
I really like this calculator because it's so easy to use and so easy to read. There are a lot of calculators out there that are set in such a way that the lighing behind you or above you makes it difficult to read or makes it easy to MISREAD. The paper roll is very easy to load and doesn't fall off and roll across the floor while you're using it. This is such a nice calculator that my girlfriend is now using it at work...yep she liked it so much she has permanently borrowed it.And did I mention that the keys are perfect not too big and gaudy or too small and clumsy.

CANON MP11DX is the best!
I have had this calculator at a previous job location and loved it. So, I purchased one for home and it has performed beautifully. I am an accounting major taking classes. I have used this for financial reporting, calculations, and home projects. It never disappoints me in its performance. The display is clear and easy to read even on those late nights when you are bleary eyed. I recently changed departments where I am employed. I ordered this same calculator I have previously used because it works for me. I would rate this A+ and definitely recommend to anyone considering purchasing a new calculator.

Good accountant's calculator.
Accountants will like this calculator. It has all the functions and a reasonably good key stroke; would have given 5* if key touch was better, but it is adequate. The paper holder is metal, that is good. The paper feeds easily. The characters print legibly on the paper from the 2 color ribbon. The display characters are large and easy to read; these are fluorescence which are durable/long lasting.I have worn out several calculators in 45 years as a CPA; like the others, this one will last about 5-8 years. However the price makes it very economical for the quality machine.

Great Calculator
I am happy with this purchase and very happy to once again have a large enough calculator (but not too large) to input numbers easily and with speed. I'm usually very happy with Canon products, even my digital camera is a Canon as well as our printer. The keys on the calculator are easy to strike and it's a lot less noisy than the one I used to use for auditing plus there is plenty of functionality for a wide variety of math uses. I use this calculator every day and love it.

Calculator Warfare
I swapped out two of these calculators and both had the same exact issue. When idol, the calculator makes a low humming sound that is piercing to your ears. It will go on for hours if you do not turn it off, back on, and off again. The best way to describe the piercing sound is that low frequency hum that only dogs can hear. Having it on your office desk turns your work station into a Guantanamo Bay sound torture room.

Old Reliable
I've been using this model for over a decade. I just love the layout and the placement of the keys. Now, it has a energy saving feature so it shuts off when not in use and just takes a press of any key to get it back running.

Calculator does not work in printing mode
I am very disappointed with this product. The calculator works fine in the "on" mode but once you move the dial to the printing mode an "E" (overflow error) displays on the screen and the calculator stops functioning. Also the ribbon inside the calculator appeared to be used. Contacted the 800 number that came with the instructions and was told that it would be best to return item to the seller because it would take up to two weeks for Canon to begin processing the item once they receive it...WOW. On other sites people complained about the short life span of this calculator therefore I'm returning for a refund. In addition, the calculator was a bit larger than expected. This is a huge disappointment.
