Q: Is the plate rubber coated too? Several reviews complained that it came uncoated

The plate IS NOT rubber coated.

Q: Do you think this is strong enough to keep a 3 year old from closing an interior door?

All I can say is it is pretty strong, I am using it on a rv camper door and it works great for keeping it open against the side of the camper.

Q: When the 2 pieces are stuck together, how thick are they (is that the 1.37" dimension or 3.5" dimension)?

The one I bought is on my camper 200 miles away but I would say it is about 1 1/2" thick when it is together. Hope this helps.
