Very high quality, GORGEOUS pencils
I'm very happy with these pencils. I bought them in hopes of complimenting my full set of Polychromos so my review may be more of a comparison, but I'm not an expert so I have to go with what experience I have.I find they blend very well together and make up for colors the other lacks. Pablo has lighter, softer shades Polychromos doesn't and Polychromos has a variety of flesh tones Pablos lacks. Of course there's overlap but both have shades unique enough to make each a good investment.Where i find Pablos superior is they're smaller in diameter so they're better for intricate detail. It seems they're a softer pencil but somehow they hold a sharp point longer (HUGE plus for me) and I've noticed very little pencil dust while using. They're very buttery so you can get a lot of layers and the color lays down easy. Pablos are hexagonal so they don't roll away as easily and they're still comfortable in my hand. Also, open stock is available from online art stores in America. The wood box is beautiful and well made but one tray has to be removed to access all the pencils and it has no handle for travel, but the upside to that is it's quite a bit smaller than the Polychromos wood box. I recommend a travel bag for the box or a carrying case for the pencils. I'm going with a travel bag as I'm constantly traveling for work and my stuff gets beat up quite a bit so the wood box is very protective.Overall this is a gorgeous set on its own or in addition to your existing collection. For me it would totally stand on its own but if you're an artist and feel you need the extra flesh tones, there's always open stock. In short, worth the investment

Top Quality Color Pencils!
Absolutely love these pencils. Most of my work is portraits to medieval artwork. There are so many brands out there it's hard to choose. Have to admit I've bought most If not all the top brands. So far the way these lay down, blend heavy or light is my go to pencils. They dont break in the sharpener. Yeah! They work well with prismacolor to Faber Castell. Lightfast no problem. If you have the money or want to add to your collection this is a must.

Don't Buy For The Box
This was a Christmas present for someone who loves Caran d'Ache pencils. She started out with the pencils that came in the tin box. She protects it like a treasure. Since she was in need of new pencils I bought up, so that she could have a nice box to match the quality of the pencils.I was shocked on Christmas day when she opened her gift, and fell in love with it. She opened the wood box to find the left hinge broken as well as the wood tray that is attached to the top. The whole excitement and joy just left the room. I was a bad father for not checking the gift before wrapping. But Caran d'Ache disappointed me in their quality.Trying to remedy the situation, I went online and purchased a second one and rushed mailed it. The second one was the same. Left hinge is broken, and the wood tray on the left is broken. Caran d' Ache "pencils" are top notch. However save money and buy the tin boxes, not the wood ones.
