So glad I tried a replacement.
This was an exchange I received within 5 days. I was so disappointed in the first I almost did not want to try.The replacement this time had a manual, diagram and Allen wrench. I felt very confident this time.I LOVE THIS ANTENNA! It worked with no adjustment needed. I'm very happy with quality and design. I would by this again, I was happy to learn from manual it is ground independent can be used on a balcony or similar. I will update with a photo later. Worth every dollar an very good price.

Bad SWR on car. Good SWR inside.
EDIT: 3/4/22GABIL Radio customer support has been very responsive in answering my questions.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I really want to like this antenna. When I first got it, I tested the SWR with the antenna attached to a triple mag mount, inside, sitting on the floor. The room was a large electronics lab with a 20 foot ceiling. There were of course lots of metal tables and chairs and electronic devices around, but not within 5 feet of the antenna. In this configuration I got great SWR across several bands, and I was delighted!I then installed the antenna on my can, in the middle of the roof. It is a Honda Accord. The reception was fine, I had good "ears" on 80, 40, 20, and even heard a little activity on 10. But when I tried to TX, the radio shut down for SWR. Unfortunately, I did not measure SWR at the end of the coax after installation. That was a mistake on my part. I did however measure it after the radio shut down. With the antenna installed on my car, SWR is greater than 1:8 on 40, 20, 17, and 15. I didn't even bother measuring the other bands. At this point I removed the antenna and checked the coax for a short. No short in the coax. Then I checked to see if maybe the coil burned up but I have continuity from the center pin of the PL-259 style connector all the way to the tip of the antenna. What I did find weird is that the threads of the PL-259 connector are shorted to the center pin and the rest of the antenna. I reached out to Gabil Radio to ask them if this is normal. The only odd thing that happen to the antenna is that while installed on the car I tested to fold-over feature and when I tried to unscrew the knurled nut, instead of the nut loosening, the entire top of the antenna above the large bottom coil began to unscrew. It didn't move more than a 16th of a rotation i.e., just a smidgen. I then screwed it back in and held it with a pair of pliers and unscrewed the knurled part. I guess that minor movement of the antenna could have ruined it? If it did, that is a shame because I need to use the fold-over feature and don't want it to destroy the antenna when it's used.I am waiting to hear back from the seller as well as directly from Gabil Radio before I do anything else. As it is right now, this antenna is not usable and I feel like I wasted my money. I'll change the review if I get good info from the seller of Gabil.EDIT 3/4/22: GABIL Radio replied and let me know the design of this antenna should in fact have the center pin shorted. This leads me to believe the antenna was either ruined when it started to unscrew at the wrong place, or that mounting it on my can changed the SWR dramatically. Unfortunately the antenna is at my work and I can't re-measure SWR off the car. When I return to work I will re-measure SWR and update the review.I have also asked GABIL if the antenna unscrewing could have damaged the antenna and also if there is anything I can try to get this antenna to work.

sturdy broad band antenna
I found that using a mag mount with metallic base decreased capacitance and greatly helped in effective radiation and reception on this antenna. Try to use an antenna analyzer to see check SWR and impedance which is R +/- Xc. If the Xc which is the capacitance component in the impedance should be as low as possible.Using a antenna tuner is highly recommended as SWR and antenna impedance can vary..Get rid of devices like switching regulators. Put noise reduction kits if noise is coming from alternators or ignition systems. You can go to a car parts store to see what they have.Try using snap on RF chokes every where.Keep working on it. This is a nice antenna and worth keeping. Being an all band will pick up noise if you can find a park or pull into a parking lot and shut off your vehicle noise is greatly reduced if not eliminated and have a nice QSO.Driving and talking on HF requires more interaction with radio and can be distracting compared to vhf radios that are pretty much easy to use especially with repeaters. I have actually gone off the road because of this. Also talk with the antenna manufacturer tech support as they may have suggestions to try. They designed it.I will write more as I find other anomalies.

Surprise
Works surprisingly well! Obviously not going to have a signal like a no-compromise antenna, but for what it is... it does very well!

Top heavy, bad receive, good xmit.
A couple things wrong here. The top coil is incredibly heavy and the whip is very lightweight, making it whip around wildly when driving at freeway speeds. The take down section is nice, and doesn’t come completely apart, so you have to just fold the antenna over and lay it down, and again it’s top heavy so it flops over. As for the match- it’s a near perfect swr match and PSK reporter says I’m getting out - but it’s deaf! Switching from an ATAS to this went from hearing 28 stations on ft8 to hearing ONE. That’s a deal breaker. I cant recommend this antenna.
