Loved them at first.
Loved these for about a year or so, but the tabs that hold the lids in place snap off. Eventually the lid won't be held in place. Worst part is the plastic tab falls indy the mill and you grind it up in your food unknowingly. I figured this out tonight as I was cooking and the mill seemed to be jammed. Suddenly something large and rectangular dropped through the grinder portion into a cream sauce. I was shocked to see something that size and not be a peppercorn. So essentially we have eaten alot of ground up plastic.

5 years daily use, only one gripe
Love these grinders. After 5 years of nearly daily use still going strong! Giving 5 stars based on satisfaction, but there is one design element (flaw?) that I wish was different. The plastic tabs that hold the tops on eventually break off and might possibly fall into the grinder. After a few broke off, I just went ahead and broke off the rest. This does not affect grinding, just don't pass them by their top!! Have no reason that these will last for years to come! Would totally recommend!

Wood Burning too Expensive?
The ability to select the grind coarseness works fairly well but I found within a year of purchase the black dots that show which setting you are on were washing off on the pepper shaker? You would think for the price of these, 8 small wood burned dots wouldn't break the bank for the manufacturer but instead, they cheaped out like most manufacturers.

Smooth Operators
Replaced an older pepper mill that died recently with this nice pair. Both are well made and the mechanisms so far work flawlessly (5 months old now). These get use almost every day for a variety of meals, and the grind used changes often. In quality, I'd say they are near professional in design. And they come with a lifetime warranty. The salt grinder has three grind settings, varying from pretty coarse to fine. The mechanism is ceramic in order to avoid any moisture in the salt from rusting out the grinding mechanism. Even then, C&M warns against using some high-moisture salts (such as some ocean or Himalayan ones), so beware of that, use good quality salt, and keep your salt sealed and dry between refills. The pepper mill has six grinding settings, from very fine to "looks like a chunk of pepper ball." The stainless steel mechanism works smoothly and easily, providing a small amount with each twist to allow for better placement and quantities on your food. We use this on everything from mashed potatoes to racks of ribs. Both of these devices do not hold a lot of salt or pepper, so you'll likely be refilling often depending upon your use; we use these a lot and refill about every two weeks or so. The tops of each pulls off to reveal the inside grinding gears and to allow for refilling. Once you've placed new salt or pepper in place, the top slides back on easily and doesn't fall off during use.My wife has arthritis problems in her hands, but these two mills aren't an issue at all for her due to the smoothness of the mechanisms.Overall, these have been an excellent addition to the kitchen.
