This is an excellent book to freshen up on diagnosing skills and to help students/interns study for upcoming exams. Very helpful, but at times wordy and confusing.

The first portion of the book contains diagnostic criteria for several diseases, how to perform the mental status exam and how to evaluate the results. The end of the book contains handouts you can give patients in the waiting room for self-evaluation and a way to score them. What is sandwiched in between is truly great.Each clinical vignette is very compelling and intensely interesting. At the end of each vignette, you can quiz yourself on the diagnosis and then confirm the answer. What proceeds from there is the DSM criteria for the diagnosis in bold, followed by the parts of the vignette that confirm or deny the presence of each symptom. There is also a brief discussion of the disease, the treatment concerns, differential diagnosis and a note on how the actual patient was handled. Even the laziest medical student can finish this book in 2 days during rotations.If you deal with conscious patients, you will have many patients with psychiatric disorders. This book is far too cheap, easy to read and valuable to pass up.

Love workbooks, guides and other books that are along the lines of "how to" or informational.This is one of those and it really breaks down things in a "How to for dummies" way so to speak.And the price was well worth it. Recommend seller. Book came really fast in the mail. I am finding that a lot of sellers these days are shipping merchandise faster than ever before. Good deal!!

This book was helpful as a reference. It gave me another tool to use when writing papers for my psychology class.

Enjoyed this so much I read it in just a couple of sittings. Case studies were compelling and also appreciated the additional information on assessment and therapies.
