Q: would this handle markers well? Like prismacolors and copics?

Yes, i use copics in mine all the time. It will bleed through, so you can only use one side. If you go heavy, it'll go to the next page as well. I put a scrap piece behind the page I'm working on and don't have issues.

Q: Can this handle watercolor? (meaning, won't wrinkle )

If you're going to do watercolor, you do have the option of priming the pages first with clear gesso. It will pretty much stop any bleed through or pilling of the paper in most journals that I have used. Depending the gesso, you may still get some page buckling, but not as much as using watercolor on unprimed pages. I've actually done this with good success in journals with thinner paper than this one (80-100gsm), but I also don't mind a small amount of buckling some of my journals. It depends. I have watercolor specific journals for heavy watercolor and gouache, but they don't have that many pages and the pages are stiff, so they don't have the feel of a traditional bound journal. Sometimes, I prefer that, but I find this is a good compromise in a journal where I want to do a fair bit of dry media and a bit of wet. It's worth considering as an option. Hope this helps.

Q: Does the binding allow the journal to open flat?

Yes, but it takes a bit of patience. It is a break in I leaned a while back with a new bible but it can be applicable to any book. It took a few times doing this “trick” and I did it by a single page at a time. But it’s worth it. Lots of how to videos on YouTube.I have the small one laying flat now and I am amazed at how well it handles pen/ink! I was worried it may fall apart on me but after several weeks looks like it doing great.

The Book is about 5/8 of and inch thick, or just a bit over 1/2 inch, and seems pretty durable.
