Update #2 Retaining strap on sheath really could be an issue, very likely to be sliced off when drawing the blade at some point. I protected the vulnerable area for now with a couple pieces of an old grinder belt wrapped onto it with electrical tape, inelegant but working. The handle is narrow even for a medium size hand. Also the handle is quite rough especially inside the hook at the rear. Took care of both issues with a couple of sections of bicycle inner tube. The handle is now so comfortable in use that I don't even think about it.Installed a lanyard that I use as per Really Big Monkey. This enables me to relax my grip, with confidence, making use more comfortable still. It's to be used and depended upon so functionality trumps anesthetics. This little machete is a good user for general camp tasks, anything that doesn't require the power of a longer blade. For practicality I'll carry a saw for thicker or dead hard wood. I'll be happier still when my accuracy and skill with it are a better match for it's potential.Update #1: I received the sheath today, which is 2 days after I made the call. Very happy that I don't have to return the machete.Been busy working on the grind so that it will take a 20 degree edge from the Sharpmaker over the full length of the blade, and put some boiled linseed oil on the handle, just because. You might not see it very well in photos but there is about a 1/2" grind before the edge, typical for a standard machete and that makes sense rather than a full flat grind as the blade thickness is indeed .095. Blade length on mine is nearly 9-5/8". The machete weighs 12.6oz, total with sheath is 16.4oz. Sheath fits well, watch out not to cut retaining strap when drawing or sheathing the blade.Further update(s) will follow.Original post: Sheath is missing. Called Ontario Knife Company customer service, told them I bought the Knife from OKC Direct thru Amazon. They are sending a sheath. Will give full updated review upon receipt of the sheath.

Replacement.
Great product purchased before.

Great but
The company must have known the handle was to thin, this is what gets me with some people, the blade is super awesome but it stops there, disappointing.. i had to make a new handle for it to be usable,

The blade is of high carbon ster, which is 1095 as most likely. Good but not great handle.
It's a good blade with a ok handle. The edge is nearly non-existent and needs to be ground out of the box because OKC let quality control go out the door and die. I'm going to work on customizing the fit of the handle plus spend the biggest part of the next 2-3 days getting a edge built. I like the weight and balance of the blade most to go with the 1095 steel. It will make a great companion bush knife that will come in handy with most out door activity. If you don't mind to put a little work into your knife like most true outdoorsmen you always reshape and sharpen a new knife anyway. Just beware that you will get a very DULL blade. So unlike OKC

No sheath as advertised - I ordered twice
No sheath sent to me in either order

Farewell, Ontario
Wonderful tool. Too bad that people buying imports from you-know-where forced the venerable Ontario Knife Company out of business.

Missing sheath
Bought no sheath like it says got with the company 4 times claiming they sent it well..... Nope I never received the 2 sheaths that were to replace the one that never came. My guess is it was just never sent. In regards to the knife itself. Handle in a bit tall and narrow made a grip for it and seems to work well. Shame that a simple sheath can ruin such a great old name. You guys suck.

Leather sheath is terrible; Wooden Handle and Carbon Steel Blade seem okay.
Both blade and handle seems okay for now, but will post an update should anything changes.Blade's wooden handle is currently soaking in mineral oil for the next 2-weeks.For $100, Deadwood Knives shipped a leather sheath with the machete. In retrospect, I should have saved the price difference to find a custom sheath. Such an expense price to join the club of relic hunters since Ontario Knife Company (formerly, Old Hickory Outdoors) appears to have permanently shut down.Pictures to follow..
