What's a Cat Going to Do When it Sees Some Pirates Stealing Socks Right Out of the Trees?
Mabel and the Sock Pirates is formatted to take up the entire screen in landscape mode (holding your device horizontally). The pictures and text display together on the screen like a traditional physical book. A lot of self published kindle picture book authors can't be bothered to take the time to format their work and reading them is like looking at a mess. I always like to take the time to acknowledge those who care enough about their readers and their own work to make sure everyone enjoys what they've written/illustrated to the fullest potential. This is a fun beautifully illustrated book about a sock farmer who has a cat named Mabel. One night when the farmer is asleep Mabel notices some pirates arrive and start pilfering the socks from the trees. She decides to put a stop to this. A lot of fun!

The best kids book on Kindle Unlimited
Well illustrated, just a little silly, written in meter, with a cute cat named Mabel as the protagonist. What kid wouldn't love having this book read to them before bedtime? And having read an unholy number of bed time stories, I can say that this is one of the few that doesn't become awful after the 15th (or 99th) read.

Mabel the Scaredy Cat
This is a delightful addition to Mr. Tate's collection of whimsical, vibrant picture books. If you're not yet a fan, you need to sample some of his magical concoctions and drink some serious chuckling. How do you exist in this fast-moving world without a moment with your child and a picture book? The answer is you don't. So, get this book. Particularly enchanting was how Mr. Tate captured the nature of kitty cats so perfectly. What house cat can resist laundered socks, warm from the dryer? So, what does Mabel the cat do when confronted with socks scattered all around. Of course, she puts one on her head, gets her tail hung up on another and some around her paws. What follows from socks on Mabel is a funny and unexpected ending. What human child, or parent can resist a picture book like this? You should give in and get this one. It's pure fun, for you and your child.

Magical!
This is a magical story about a farmer, his cat, his crops and his magical trees that grow socks! One night a ship full of pirates arrive to steal them and, what happens next is just perfect! The story rhymes, is well-plotted, well-written, makes sense and is so very colorful and cherry that it’s a delight to read!

This is an adorable book. I think I like it even more ...
This is an adorable book. I think I like it even more than my four year old daughter does. The illustrations are original, dynamic, and and engaging, cute without being "cutesy." The text is very good too. I'm not sure if this self published or not, but I think it probably is. I've noticed that with a lot of self published books that use a rhyming scheme, the poetry is boring and predictable. Not so with this book. It is intelligently written, maintaining a great sense of humor and rhythm throughout. I have since purchased all of Elwyn Tates books and I hope to see more from this talented individual for him to achieve the success he deserves!

A tale both fun and filled with fabulous vocab
Tempted by the title, you'll also be drawn in by the elegant and quick-witted rhyme. Who would have imagined a cat and some socks could have such power? This book also includes some amazing illustrations!

A Whimsical Adventure of a Courageous Kitten
This is a well crafted book. The vocabulary will expand your child's knowledge of words. The words are placed is a context, with rhythm, and pictures that immediately imply they're meaning. The illustrations and rhyme draw you into an adventure of valiant kitten defending his farmer's livelihood. This is a great bedtime book for younger children. But best of all, the story is fun. It makes you smile. Especially if you're an older child.

Perfect for small babies upwards.
I have been reading a bedtime story by video to my grand daughter aged 16 months during the lockdown and she loved this book and so did her mum. The idea of a sock tree is brilliant and Mabel the cat is adorable. The rymes are good and the author keeps the story simple. The illustrations are lovely and not the usual bright colours you usually get in children's books but more natural. The story is short making it suitable for very young children as they love the rhymes and the song song way it's written even if they have a short attention span. I have now bought Mabel and the cloud Dragon and I hope he intends to write more Mabel books.

Funny illustrations, entertaining story
Mabel lives on a farm with the owner Farmer Bill. They have lots of fruit, vegetables as well as animals on the farm but the thing that grows the best are the magical trees. They grown magical socks in all different colours and patterns. One day a ship of pirates spot the magical trees and try and steal the trees. Clever Mabel is up in a tree guarding the precious sock trees and spots them. She tumbles, falls over the socks and lands up getting covered from head to tail in socks. This frightens off the pirates and they see her shadow and think she is some sort of monster. The story ends with Mabel curled up smiling and asleep after her unfortunate adventure. This story is suitable for young children and the story rhymes in a fun way that will keep children engaged and the description of the socks and the pirates could introduce young children to new and exciting words to learn.I found myself laughing at the story and the illustrations are very funny. The author is also the illustrator. I highly recommend this fun and entertaining book.

Mabel and the Sock Pirates
This is a wonderful picture book for children aged 2+. Farmer Bill lives with his black and white cat, called Mabel. Along with the normal things that farmers keep – sheep, cows and vegetables – Farmer Bill has a more unusual crop. He has magical trees which grow socks! When some pirates sail by they decide to steal the socks – can Mabel stop them?Beautiful illustrations and a text which is joyous to read aloud, make this a very special book. I downloaded this as a bedtime story for my little nephew, but I would like to buy the picture book, as I think this would be ideal to read at story time to any Nursery / Reception age class. “The Deep and Snowy Wood,” also by Elwyn Tate, is also highly recommended. Both are original, quirky and really wonderful reads for young children.

Worth a read. Perfect bedtime story.
I absolutely love this story and so does my daughter, we had the digital download of this book but we love it so much we needed to have a copy of it. The story flows beautifully and it rhymes throughout. The illustrations go well with this story. It’s a perfect bed time read.
