Dean Markley Blue Steel strings are cryogenically frozen with a blast of liquid nitrogen. By freezing the strings down to -320ºF, we tighten the molecules, minimizing microscopic gaps. This process removes transient frequencies that produce harsh highs and muddy lows, creating a more consistent string, with true tone and longer life. Made of 8% nickel-plated steel outer wrap on tinned Mandolin wire hex-core, Blue Steel strings have been top-sellers for years and are used by pros worldwide. Once you try Blue Steel strings you’ll be hooked. They feel great, ring true, are durable and long-lasting, and they just plain sound good.

Love Dean Markley. Packaging issue.
When it comes to strings, I've been a fan of Dean Markley for years. Ever since buying the vintage reissue 1972 strings (which sadly aren't manufactured anymore. I actually found an unopened package I didn't know I had, but found that they had rusted over the years. Which brings me to the reason I'm writing this review.)Now, I 'do' like these strings. They sound great, they aren't Ernie Balls or Elixirs (why I'm prejudiced against them, I don't know. I just like to stray from the crowd.) I can't really emphasize on the sound they produce, simply because my ears just know what they like. What I don't like about these strings is the packaging. Upon opening the cardboard sleeves which the strings come in (as seen in the picture), the string themselves are packaged inside a small plastic bag, which to my knowledge should have been vacuum sealed. All 4 of the string packages I received had holes in them. I'm not sure if this was how they were supposed to be packaged, but I would assume being vacuum-sealed, the strings themselves would be less prone to damage from the elements and rust than to be exposed to air and moisture from having a hole in the plastic packaging.Don't get me wrong, I do still love Dean Markley strings, but I will no longer buy multiple packs at once due to the packaging I received mine in. For a solo guitar player that only plays at home and for fun like myself, 2-4 packages of strings at a time is okay I guess, but no more than that in the case they do become damaged due to the packaging.

Great strings but what picks?
I've used these strings for many years. They seem to last longer than other strings that I've used and to my ears they are also seem brighter in tone than what other strings do. The only negative thing I have to offer is that the seller claimed that they would come with some free guitar picks. There wasn't a single guitar pick to be found in the package nor in any of the individual packages of strings. It doesn't really matter to me at all because the deal on the strings was good and I don't use the type of picks pictured anyhow. The false offer of free guitar picks did not influence my purchasing decision at all.

they have GREAT tone. The guitar itself sounds good regardless
WHOA. Talk about tone. The price was right on these so I figured I'd try some higher end strings for a change. I put a set of these, in 11's, on my beloved SRV artist model stratocaster. they have GREAT tone. The guitar itself sounds good regardless, but these strings are very tonally balanced. Ive had them on the guitar for a month, approx. 40 hours of playing time, and they still haven't corroded from my sweaty hands. Bonus!

Steel Blue 11 Gague
I got these real quick. I used these for my acoustic/ Electric Guitar project and I think they sound real nice. And yes I did receive my special bag of Picks. Those were a cool add to my order. Now everything is Rocking n Rolling. Thanks Amazon.

Dean Markley Blue Steel guitar strings are my personal favorites.
Dean Markley Blue Steel guitar strings are the best strings I've ever used. They last a long time and are very durable. They also give a great tone on any type of effects processing you may apply to them. The sustain is also great and you can bend notes with them easily. Simply the best I've ever found.

... for newbies who are still figuring out what they like. Experienced guitar players each have our own preferences
This review is more for newbies who are still figuring out what they like. Experienced guitar players each have our own preferences. That being said....I've been playing for 20 years and have always liked Dean Markleys for the way they sound and the way they feel. Considering 1 pack of strings is usually $6 to $8 in a music store, you really can't beat 8 sets for $20. I use this gauge (0.10-.046) in the studio for their full sound. I play rock, not metal, with a Fender Telecaster and Gibson Les Paul through a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 50 with a Marshall 1960A 4X12 cabinet loaded with Greenbacks. I definitely recommend this deal.Chad

A great second choice.
I like these strings, but they're not my first choice. I really like the old Dean Markley electric strings, but can't seem to find them anymore. These are a close second. They're not quite as bright and clear as the old Dean Markleys, but they do seem to hold their tone longer. And the price is right. Delivery was quick.

Great tone.
I've always switched between Ernie Balls and Dean Markleys because they both have great sounding strings that don't corrode after a few hours of playing. These are probably the best feeling of the two. A lot less pressure needed to make a chord or any lead playing. All around great set of strings.
