This book is not perfect . And the art direction of the book leaves much to be desired given the SUPERLATIVE beauty of the work of the designer featured . It doesn’t feel like any lavish coffee table fashion tome from the likes of Assouline or Phaidon or Taschen neither . In fact : it feels like a text book .A text book for an exquisite class on the EXQUISITE complete works of fashion designer JOHN GALLIANO . Because in fact, what this book lacks in form it MORE THAN MAKES FOR in CONTENT . It’s simply the absolute BEST curated and explained compendium on the whole works(to the point it was publish at least )of Galliano. From his early crude but exhilarating first namesake collections. Through his Haute rise and even Hauter fall at Dior ;and to his Phoenix like resurrection ,after a brief hiatus , at MAISON Margiela . Every little detail you didn’t know you wanted to know about the works. Chronologically showcased in an unpretentious , easy to read and see format . The amount of “insider intel” the author had access to and shared with the reader is astounding . Along with some( however not ever enough ) pictures of some rare findings and enigmatic pieces seen only on the whiff of the runway , for a few seconds to an intimate crowd. Im sort of an expert on Galliano myself (there is a JARRING mistake on the picture naming Linda Evangelista on the DIOR spring 1998, when in fact the model shown is Greta Cavazzoni ) and I still found bits and details I haven’t seen before . This is a gem of a book for any true fashion lover and a must have for us all admirers of this most individual of talents and creative force . Can’t recommend owning it enough !...
