My first Citizen watch . . . I love it!
I'll preface my review by saying that I have only had the watch for about a week. That being said, I love it! The packaging was satisfactory - both the Citizen box and Amazon box were properly insulated and wrapped, where the watch was unlikely to be damaged during transit. Upon putting on the watch for the first time, it fit perfectly on my wrist. I should note that I have a very small wrist and I really dislike watch bands that "wrap around" the wrist where the strap is not held close to the band by a band loop (i.e., sticks out). Similarly, the watch itself is perfect as well - the diameter is not so big where the face overwhelms my wrist. I really love the Casio G-force watches, but usually the watch face and/or the rubber band is way too big for my wrist. I also think the band is handsome and rugged. I have no plans to switch it out, "dress it up," etc. The watch has a military look which I like (I was on a medical rescue team in the Air Force and I wish I would have had something like this back then).Time keeping is excellent. I just checked the watch's time and it hasn't lost any seconds since I set it last week. Bravo to solar power. Damn, did I hate changing batteries on my other watches! For this reason alone, I love it. I always use to admire Seiko and have many of their watches. However, I now believe Citizen has trumped Seiko . . . I would definitely buy another one of their watches.Concerning the illumination of the watch - I tested it in a darkened walk in closet and the illumination worked really well. I had no problem discerning the time. Regarding the watch time keeping and chronograph - I thought the large Arabic numerals were easy to read and the 3 chronograph dials were easy to read as well. The chronograph itself is very simple to use and I had no problem figuring out how each functioned. My only complaint is the date window . . . I can barely see it. Perhaps this is more due to my poor vision then anything else. However, it is a minor complaint. Last, but not least, the cost to me was $135 (I believe the watch is selling now for $168.75, i.e., I was fortunate to get the watch while it was discounted by 40%).All in all, I would recommend this watch to anyone; and, as I alluded to earlier, I will probably consider a Citizen watch before other brands, if I am in the market for a watch again.

Beautifully built light-powered military-style quartz chronograph
This watch ticks off all the boxes for me. It had to be affordable. It had to be extremely accurate. It had to be extremely legible in light or total darkness. It had to be water-resistant for everything but scuba diving. It had to have a 24-hour time scale or readout. It had to be compact enough not to overwhelm my 6" wrists. It had to have a scratch-resistant crystal. It had to have a legible, easy to use chronograph function. It had to have a date function. And perhaps most importantly, I did NOT want to be bothered with battery changes or periodic (and expensive if done right) cleaning/lubrication and maybe even degaussing and perhaps re-regulation every 2-3 years.Well, hello Citizen Eco-Drive Chronograph! This watch is beautifully built for any price timepiece, but especially for an affordable one. The Citizen eco-drive movement has yet to register a perceptible timekeeping error as compared to smartphone and computer Internet synchronized time references or WWV on my shortwave. And visually, there's simply no mistaking what time it is whether the ambient illumination is direct sunlight or total darkness at 0500.I may update this review over time, but so far, I'm extremely happy with this watch. Interestingly enough, I bought it to supplement and extend the battery life on my Fitbit Versa2. I found my Fitbit battery wheezing to a halt after as little as a day and a half of frequent time-checking. Now that I'm using my good old fitness tracker primarily as a fitness tracker and phone app updater instead of as an ersatz wristwatch emulator, the battery easily lasts over a week. When I want to know what time it is, I simply glance at my beautiful new, ultra-legible Citizen and voila! I'd almost forgotten how nice it is to have such a legible, intuitive time display on my wrist again! That plus the legendary Citizen Eco-Drive photoelectric battery charging system creates for me an ideal, external charger-independent timekeeper. And everyone who's seen it admires the quality. Nice job, Citizen.

The strap lasts about 4 years of constant use. It starts to look a little scruffy the last year before I replace it. You can buy the exact same band that came on it, but I don't know why you would want to. I found some good 20mm bands while I was searching for a replacement band (and inadvertently two other citizen watches, oops), but then I found this one. Its not your traditional band for this watch, but I'm out of the military and back in school, so who cares, plus I've got two dressier citizens when this doesn't fit the t-shirt, jeans and sandals style. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FHJE668?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00This Fluco Vigo 20mm is fantastic.
