Very Well Designed
This book is awesome. Warning: the crochet terms are UK but they are easy to convert to US. Also the robin pattern is for a European Robin, not US.It took me some trial an error to make my birds but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. The patterns are well constructed and easy to follow. The craft wire for the feet is brilliant!

Realistic displayable gorgeous bird pattern book. One of a kind!
Gorgeous book. Advanced techniques but author has bent over backwards to explain each stitch (Albeit U.K. terminology) and embroidery etc so if a beginner really wanted to make these, one could although it would be a challenge. I'd said I'm intermediate but I have great desire as a bird lover, and the information is in here, so with patience, I can do it! So if you love birds and are a dedicated beginner, buy it anyway and work your way through it. I did. It even has graphs, has a "techniques and before you begin section" in the back. Basic knowledge of single crochet, (author called double crochet-u.k terms) etc is helpful but author provides it. She does provide conversions in back & explains every stitch in U.K. crochet terminology where D.C. means single crochet (S.C.) for U.S. and she does mention these differences in the very back but be familiar with U.K terms before you buy. You can view stitch by stitch with illustrations in back. She even explains embroidery methods & stitches she used to to make birds life like. This is RARE. Most authors leave this out. She explains how she attaches them. Truly, a beginner, with effort could make these. Enough info is provided. Also these birds use craft wire on legs & some beaks. She suggests Alpaca yarn & other U.K. brand yarn, but again, explains HOW TO CONVERT to other yarn & appropriate hooks. They are for display and not something I would let my 4 yr old or my teen, or even me play around with. As the cover shows, they are display items. Realistic birds. Just like I searched for. Exactly what I wanted. There are enough "angry" childish bird patterns, albeit cute. Like the author, I wanted realistic birds I could crochet, display and enjoy, like the real ones I enjoy outside my window. She has given me this realism and much more. I am so grateful. I hope she creates some American songbirds. She does have a beautiful bald eagle pattern in this book, perhaps just for us Americans?!!! Thank you Vanessa! :) 🦅

Beautiful well made book
The patterns are for European species so if your interest is for another part of the world you will need to change the patterns some what.

One Of The Best Pattern Books
I purchased this book at another site (less expensive) after reading the reviews here on Amazon. I was a bit hesitant but made the purchase. I am very glad I did because this is, without question, one of the best crochet pattern books I have purchased. Are there considerations? Yes.1. The patterns are written in UK crochet terminology. But the description of the stitches is in the back section of the book and it only takes a moment to figure out the US equivalent.2. The patterns are also charted, so if you are not a written instruction person you can refer to the charted directions. I found them a bit of a brain twist, but again, if you take the time to study them they make perfect sense.3. It is critical that you mark and count your stitches. If you do not take the extra second to do that, or do not want to do that, these are not the patterns for you. So, with that said, these birds will crochet out beautifully because the patterns are full on accurate. The reviewers who complain otherwise are wrong. I would suggest that they made some simple counting errors or failed to correctly translate the UK stitch to US stitch (ex: UK describes a single crochet as "dc" where in the US a "dc" would be a double crochet). A simple mistake like that will drastically alter your results. To make life easier, the first bird I did, the blackbird, I used the standard 4-ply Red Heart yarn. Yes the bird was large, but it allowed me to see exactly where the pattern was headed. Mistakes I made were easy to identify and correct. Once my large version was done I did a second with size 10 crochet thread. The resulting bird was about half the pattern gauge and exactly what I wanted, tiny and delicate. Each of the four birds I have finished were spot on to the pattern. The only change I made was the stuffing. I used wool roving in a color to match the bird so no white stuffing is visible in the finished bird. If you want to crochet birds that have a bit more realistic look to them then this is the book you have been searching for, it is well written, very well illustrated, and accurate. The results are well worth the little bit of extra effort.

Adorable little birds, impossible to make....
In all fairness, it's probably just me, but I literally could not make head nor tails of these adorable little crocheted birds. I found the diagrams to be near impossible to follow and the size of each of them was truly not expected (though I checked my stitch gauge). Alas, I will pass along this book to a more astute crochet artisan. I might add, I've been crocheting for something like 50 years; but I'm guessing that's most likely my problem here.

Pretty good
I like this book. I'm still a beginner though, so I would have liked to have had a "beginner" section. Some are obviously more complicated due to color changes, embellishments/patterns, or some of the shapes. But overall I think this is a great book. I love how the birds actually stand instead of being more stuffed animal like

So, so schöne Projekte!
