exemplary flute experience
After reading the reviews of this flute (Native American Flute - Cherry - Spiritual Healing - Professional Model - Deep Key Low D) decided to purchase one. It is as beautifully crafted as was suggested in a review. It's easy to play and the sound is low and melodic. I have a number of flutes and one of the best qualities of this one so far is how snug the "fetish" is. A number of my other wood flutes require tying off the fetish/ totem every other time I play it. I like that this one seems so secure. The fact that it comes with a stand, a carrying bag, cd, dvd and song book is a great advantage. Although I have played native american flutes for close to 15 years, I have played around with them making up my own tune and songs. Having the song book is an additional incentive to "get it right and learn the correct notes". That part has been fun and instructional for me. The how to play a flute dvd is very clear, focused and simple to understand. I'd give the whole experience an A ++ and would definitely try another flute by this maker.

Damaged
The flute at first appeared to be well constructed but after a closer examination I discovered that the wood of the totemwhich sits on top of the flute and is responsible for the tone had a crack in it. I think this will enlarge over time and change how the flute sounds. I'm sure whoever checks these flutes (quality control) should have noticed this and replaced the totem. At this time I am definitely disappointed with my flute.

Excellent quality, and hidden feature
First of all I'm surprised no one mentioned The D flute is actually so sharp that it's more like an Eb flute. You will NOT be able to play happily with someone who is playing in D minor, unless you are tone deaf! That's okay, because at least it's in tune with itself, and all you have to do is play it with songs that are in Eb instead of in D. Also, I used this in my compositions and was able to use melodyne to pitch shift for it to fit in whatever key I wanted. This flute has the capability to play chromatically; you just have to google for the fingering chart and also experiment with your own fingerings. Here is a sound sample: soundcloud.com/maxloh/sprouts-journey at 1:05Range: This flute goes all the way up to flat9 no problem. It can also go up to minor 10th, but you have to blow kind of hard. However, in my piece I was able to just go up to flat9 and melodyne-shift it up to minor 10th and it sounded perfectly natural.HIDDEN "MODDING" FEATURE: Pull the fetish so that instead of having it sit right over the square hole, it sits about 0.25-1 cm behind it (you'll have to experiment to see what sounds best). If it's not behind enough, you'll just sound squeaky. If it's too far behind it will sound too airy. But there is a "sweet spot" where you can literally convert this native american flute into an entirely different sounding instrument which sounds more like a shakuhachi. In some cases this is even better-sounding than the default sound. I featured it in soundcloud.com/maxloh/islands at 6:01 and also soundcloud.com/maxlohmusic/temple-loot at 0:13

This is a "miss"
not quite what I expected in a flute. description should note that the flute is made of two pieces of wood, and made quite sloppily: the seams are not flush on the inside of the flute and and I could easily see where the adhesive oozed out from the seams and was allowed to dry, also on the inside of the flute. Also, the outside of the flute stank of lacquer so much so that I could not play the flute for about 2 weeks after I received it. Although pretty to look at, this flute does not have the attention to detail that my other flutes have. The tone is ok, not wonderful, probably due to the internal unevenness of the wood. I would not buy from this flute maker again nor would I recommend this flute for much more than an idle conversation piece.

Looks better than it plays.
Looks better than it plays. Was disappointed by the inner craftsmanship. Wish I would have spent more for a better quality. Right now it's sitting on the mantle, where it will probably stay.

Native American Flute - Key of Low D
I have been using this flute for about six weeks now. It's tone is beautiful. I have found two things about this flute that made me rate it slightly lower that 5 stars.1. The fret on top is EXTREMELY sensitive about its position and2. it does not like to play high F and G.I had to learn to handle it to make it work on these notes. However, it is the flute that my audience preferrs to hear. Comments are: the sound is "hauntingly beautiful" and "a very comforting sound" according to my audience. Thank you for making this beautiful flute. The workmanship in the finishing is so nice.Carol Whitten

Quality is superb
The quality and workmanship which appears in this flute is gratifying. I was somewhat hesitant to buy, as I have seen feedback on other similar items that was not very helpful. When I opened the box (which arrived on schedule), I was VERY impressed, as was my wife (for whom it was a Christmas gift). She played a clarinet for many years and was excited to receive this flute. She studied current and pre-historic Native American culture and felt this may bring her closer to its tradition. The tone produced is very mellow. As noted by other feedback: It is pleasing to the ear and not difficult to learn. Well worth the price. Even when not being played, it is an eye-catching addition to our display case and the Cedar display stand adds to its attractiveness!Again, the quality is superb.

Problem with the Native American Flute
After playing the Native American Flute - Cherry - Spiritual Healing - Professional Model - Deep Key Low D for 3 months. It started leaks air around the "fetish" and I want to pay them to repair it, but they have no phone # or address. It's a pretty expensive toy that doesn't work. I've tried contacting their web site, but they will not accept my e-mails.
