Take us back to those days
This is a fascinating insight into gentler times in Iran and Istanbul. It captures the beauty of the culture. and Gertrude Bell's writing style conveys that gentle beauty . Her adventurous spirit is an inspiration

Interesting historical perspectives
Bell in places offers deep and cogent insights into those times and places, and also some very lovely descriptions of what she witnessed, but also at times launches into verbose attempts at Victorian Oriental romanticism to which only the English drawing-room set of olden times would have been attuned. Of some little historical value, and with some literary merits to be sure, but with some belle-lettrist excess. She was a woman much enamored of her own prolixity.

A woman's daring adventure of life!
A woman's unequaled adventure of daring, curiosity and a cultural love of peoples, customs and traditions..in an age when women were expected to sit still and smile.
