These are amazing for calligraphy! Comparison between Kuretake and Tombow

Photos: Kuretake left, Tombow right.Kuretake Fude Brush Pens vs Tombow Dual Brush PensKuretake: I really love that the brush is firm enough to easily make thin lines and soft enough to easily make thick strokes so it’s perfect for beginners. The colors come out as excepted except orange. The orange appears to be a bit more gold. Although I haven’t had these for very long, the brushes appear to be durable with no splitting whatsoever. The brushes also have a lot of consistency between them. They all have the same amount of firmness/softness. These are small pens so they don’t make super thick strokes like Tombow. I know these are Japanese brushes, but I wish they would make special packaging in English the way other Japanese companies like Zebra do. I have other Kuretake brushes and pens and I forget the sub names of them since I can’t read what’s on the pen. Overall a great buy for calligraphy artists who want to make beautiful, elegant strokes with vibrant colors.Tombow Dual Brush Pens: While I really like these, it takes much more control to get the thin strokes, but if you’re more advanced, it won’t be a problem. I had to get a replacement because the ends of the brushes were splitting on day one of use and the consistency between brushes were off too. Some brushes were way softer while others were more firm. Some of the colors were not as expected. The red was a brownish red, light green was yellow with a hint of green in it and purple was more blue. The replacement I got two days ago from them is significantly better, more vibrant and as expected among colors except the red and light green. The red looks pink and the light green still looks yellow with a slight green hue in it. The durability is questionable as the brushes initially weren’t splitting but then started to split slightly after two days. Consistency among packages is also up in the air, some buyers had the same issues I had with both my packs while others had none. It’s luck of the draw I guess. The colors are gorgeous and with practice, I can tell the strokes will be elegant with nice, thick strokes.Between the two, I like Kuretake Fude better and highly recommend for beginners.Ps. Any skipping you see in the lettering is my own doing since I don’t have the correct pressures down yet.

Gorgeous colors!

I have a set of 12 of the Kuretake Zig Clean Color Real Brush pens (and a larger set on order). Since the colors are gorgeous, I thought I'd try these Pocket pens for situations that require a stiffer "brush" nib. I was not the least bit disappointed with the Pocket Color Brush pens. The colors in these are just as bright as the Real Brush pens, and it has a good selection of colors. The nib on the Pocket Color Brush pens is a single nib rather than brush fibers, so it is a good deal stiffer, which is good for easily filling in larger spaces, or for coloring, as I had hoped..For those of you who also have the Clean Color Real Brush (CCRB) pens and are interested in the Pocket Brush pens or vice versa, these are the differences and similarities in colors:Carmine Red (022), Pink (025), Yellow (050), Brown (060), Light Green (041), Green (040), Blue (030), and Light Gray (091) are all the same in both types.Orange CCRB #070 is lighter, more yellow orange, Pocket #023 is deeper, more red orange.Lighter blues: Cobalt Blue CCRB #031 is lighter blue which I would call sky blue, Pocket #032 is a significantly deeper blue.Purple Violets: Light Violet CCRB #081 is more violet and brighter, Pocket #083 is not as bright and has more blue in it.Pocket Brush #061 is an ochre/deep yellow, and is not in the CCRB set of 12.Black CCRB #010 is not in the Pocket pens set.The Pocket Color Brush Pen set is a bargain to get the bright colors of the more expensive Real Brush pens. I wish the Pocket pens had a larger set available.

These are cool!

These pens were intriguing to me when described by another artist and I’m glad I bought them. They can add a hint of milky white to areas on paintings and I really like them.

Nice surprise, good value.

I do really enjoy these brush pen markers. For a medium sized nib you can get some very thick strokes, as well as nice thins! For the price they are great, however there is some inconsistencies to the brush nibs. The deep pink I used to write out the brand name has an oddly stiff but also flexible nib (not in a good way, some pens this works out very well, this not so much) most of the others have a great flow when writing and nice bounce back. I did purposely use the pink to show that it is still workable, but I really had to pay attention when using it. I sort of think the nib issues isn’t common since the others are not like that at all. Maybe I received a dud. Again, for the price I do think these are nice brush markers! I think they can add a nice variety to a hand letterers collection.

Love, love these markers

Great colors! They don't shred the paper or force two coats, like Tombow markers.

It’s WHITE

It really does write white! I’m skeptical about pens that say they are white because the only ones I’ve found that actually are have different type pigments. These are basically like a white medium tip marker!

Llegó incompleto el set

Los marcadores son de buena calidad. Lastimosamente, el set llegó incompleto, falta el marcadores negro y el rosa, así que por eso le pongo 3 estrellas, ya que me decepcionó bastante.
