DEWALT 18V XR Brushless 125mm Sander, Bare Unit, DCW210N-XJ

Great bit of kit. Build quality is DeWalt typically high. Pretty light, even with a 4a/h battery attached. Vibration through the hand/arm is minimal making this very comfortable to use. Dust collection is relatively effective without attaching to a separate vacuum. Used on wood, plaster, filler, all with impressive results.

Having used a get cheap sanders, I was keen to get a tool that was cable free and could be attached to a vacuum cleaner.This unit is a good quality build and it works much much better than my cheap units. It can remove a large amount of material, but if tou want to do something delicate, like sanding plaster, you can turn down the speed.Attaching a vacuum cleaner is expensive. You don't get the fitting, but have to buy it separately, either as a single adapter yhat gets attached permanently to the vacuum hose (£18) or a full kit that allows you to just push in a normal vacuum hose (£30).I used this kit on a ceiling, running the sander on slow. No clouds of dust, and the end result was extremely good.Not all dust was captured though. A small sprinkling fell on my shoulder, but this was a very small amountBattery life seemed very good. An hour of sanding used about half a 2ah battery.Overall I think this is the start of a beautiful relationship with this new tool. I have lots of boatwork to do this winter, and being able to work for long periods on batteries is a definitely plus.

Best sander I've bought. Finally no cables that get in the way and with a long battery life I don't need to worry about charging it after every use. It's got a good weight to it that's not too heavy but heavy enough that you don't need to put pressure into your sanding.

As you would expect at this sort of price and from DeWalt this is solidly made and effective. It feels best balanced when fitted with DeWalt's smaller batteries BUT I get no more than 10 minutes running time from my 1.5Ah batteries. Fortunately I have two and they recharge in around 30 minutes. With my 4Ah battery the run time is much longer but the added weight offset from the body does make it feel a little unbalanced. The supplied dust collector is OK and better than nothing but the accessory to connect to a vacuum cleaner is worthwhile, albeit rather expensive for what it is, as this dramatically reduces the amount of dust in the air. As I already had a couple of cordless tools from DeWalt it seemed sensible to opt for the cordless sander but otherwise, taking into account the cost of a battery (or batteries) and charger I'd have bought a corded sander.

Exactly what you expect from Dewalt: Ergonomic design, reliability and exceptional results. I have used this sander on a number of projects with differing sanding grades. Battery life is good and with two batteries you can keep going all day.
