Marina Carr: Plays 1: Low in the Dark, The Mai, Portia Coughlan, By the Bog of Cats... (Faber Drama)

I read "By the Bog of Cats" for an Irish literature grad class, and loved Carr's ability to create environments and dynamic relationships. I purchased this book to read more of Carr's plays and she quickly became one of my favorite playwrights. Carr's ability weave together traditional Irish conventions with elements of Greek tragedy is incredible, and keeps readers hanging on to every line of dialogue. Whether you're an Irish literature fanatic or pretty unfamiliar with the genre, I think Carr offers something valuable for every reader.

Carr's plays are well crafted, beautifully written, but unbearably bleak.There's a lot of tough stuff in this collection, so be prepared for some shocking scenes.A real talent.
