This was an accidental purchase, as I am not currently studying conversational Gaeilge (aka Irish), rather Gaidhlig (Scottish Gaelic). No offense to my Irish side of the family -- it's just that I need to concentrate on one of the two closely related forms and master that first! But I still don't regret the purchase, because especially in a children's book of this early level with simple sentence structure, it's really interesting for a languages geek to see the difference in spellings, etc. And I'm quite sure that studying Old Irish, the language that is a parent to both modern Gaeilge and Gaidhlig, is going to bring me around to modern Irish at some point... that's just what my life is like. So I don't regret the few dollars!

I'm just starting to learn Irish, and I thought this would be a cute little book to get. Then, I found out that the phrase "Ta me beag?" is incorrect Irish because you don't use "Ta" in a question, you use "An bhuil." (Ya'll, I don't know how to type fadas, so please excuse their absence.) One of the people on one of the Irish language forums suggested that maybe this is a form of baby talk or something.So... the book certainly didn't work for my purposes. Although, the pictures are cute.Update: It turns out it is a form of Irish baby talk, so I increased the stars to 3 for the super cute artwork.

I love using this book to teach me niece a wee bit of Irish!! I hope there are more books like it.
