Not a gimmick - definitely effective and makes walks fun again!
Pretty much all summer the black flies, no-see-ums, mosquitos and horseflies are rough in New Hampshire. One of my dogs Marshall (aka "the stinky one") would often have a whole cloud of bugs behind him on certain stretches of road when we went for long walks. For a while I just wore a baseball cap and used it to swat at them, but the bugs are pretty quick and you're not realistically going to kill enough of them to do anything. Then we bought this portable bug zapper. I remember being a kid and being fascinated by how effective my dad's old hanging bug light worked, so I was cautiously optimistic that this product would be useful. Not only does it work amazing, but I have gone a week without charging it and finally charged it just because I couldn't believe it would last much longer. I probably kill a hundred horseflies and 50 mosquitos a day with it, and it's kind of fun when you're walking along to try and zap the little buggers. The dogs don't necessarily LOVE it because when it zaps, it's LOUD and bigger bugs like horseflies often get jammed in the grates so you have to blow or scrape them out or they sit there and short out the grid and cook (smells awful) but still - this thing is a game changer. My wife started using it on a hike up in Maine where the mosquitos were bad and she wouldn't give it back once she started using it - it became a game to "swipe" all the bugs off of everyone while your'e walking.Anyway - I highly recommend this purchase - you won't regret it!

DOES NOT WORK. Stuns doesn't kill. Can't catch gnats, mosquitoes or anything small.
The mesh has such wide spacing that gnats and smaller insects fly right through it 9 out of 10 times. And even when they were hit, the charge was only enough to stun (some, not all) but never kill them. This thing doesn't work. If you have a problem with very large flying bugs and you're fine with just stunning them, then having to find and kill them wherever they've fallen ... I guess this is for you. This product design can't possibly do what it claims but it has 2300 4star ratings and 500 reviews?? What? The minute I looked at this is person I could tell it wouldn't work, so the positive reviews and ratings here seem inauthentic. I'd suggest reading critical reviews before buying anything, they're usually the most accurate representations of a product.

So Satisfying!
After buying and returning a couple hanging bug zappers that did absolutely nothing, it was so satisfying to swing this thing through the middle of the offending swarm of flies that has been mocking me for weeks and hear 5 or 6 death zaps. Another swing, another few dead flies. The rest, if there were any left alive, got the hint and went elsewhere. A smaller swarm returned a few hours later and I killed a few more and I haven't noticed more than the occasional lone fly which doesn't bother me. If you have flies or other insects that tend to swarm around certain areas, like garbage cans, pet food bowls or just in the middle of the room in front of the TV, this works really well.Plenty of power to kill small to medium insects. If you could get a moth or larger insect through the grid, it would eventually fry them to death too but it would be super sad and smell really bad.I like the little round stand it comes with to hold it upright while charging or just storing.I really like the rechargeable lithium battery. I had 1 of these type of swatter years ago that took C batteries and cost a fortune to operate.Build quality seems really solid. I expect this to last a good long time.

Zap! Worth. It.
I love this fly swatter! It is very easy to use, which is good because it doesn't come with instructions. Simply plug in to charge and then go zap a bug - it is soooooo satisfying!I was a little disappointed to find that the swatter only incapacitates flies, it doesn't kill them (unless they are stuck to the metal, then you burn them up). Typically, I hit a fly, the racquet makes a loud snap, and the fly lands on the ground and spins around in circles until I kill it. I also appreciate the finer mesh of this raquet/swatter versus others because it makes it easy to get the bug the first time and allows you to zap smaller bugs easily too.I took one star off because this doesn't actually kill flies, but I like it well enough to keep it.

USB Rechargeable no replacing batteries
Living in the apartment building in the back of the complex we walk outside to a big grassy area with a tree line. The Mrs. and I argue in the summer over who should take the dog out that night because we know the bugs are out in full force especially with the exterior lights next to the apartment door. This zapper swatter has worked wonderful for us as such I have even begun to volunteer(brownie points) taking the dog knowing one swing with this will zap the bugs all around me.The fact that this is USB rechargeable is a big plus, as soon as I come back inside I can set it on its base to plug in for a charge knowing the next time I use it, it will be at full power and I do not need to go looking around the house for batteries to replace in it. The plastic handle is a tad more lightweight than expected but it has held up well to the countless amount of swings we have taken with it.The 3000V grid takes care of any bug in its path and I love hearing the zap when you have connected with one. Plus the built in LED light to use in the dark will help you see and also attract bugs to their unknown demise.

Safety grate is an issue
I had one of these a while back but without the extra safety grate and loved it. I was hoping to love this too but it doesn’t work very well. It doesn’t get small bugs because of the safety grate and big bugs can take 2-4 times hitting them to actually kill them. I returned it
