Provides discrete convienent drying space
This product was easy to install. took me 45 minutes by myself. and that was only because I at first tried to follow the directions. the directions aren't bad, just beware that the way the cords are wrapped they will pull out easily from the auto hold pully. the pully is not very easy to lock, but then I set the tie-off hooks so that I could use it to support the weight of the bars when placing clothing on the bars. I bought this so that I could line dry delicate lingerie without hanging it out for the whole world to see. also it gets the drying articles out of my way. no more squeezing past the drying rack in the hall. te stainless steel bars are actually heavy and feel solid. the pullies are plastic but should even hold up for quilts.Update: 2014The lift(s) (as I have two of them now) are still going strong. One inside (for privacy) and one under my carport for drying cotton rugs, sheets and towels and clothes. Both bought in 2011. I have used them at least every two weeks and absolutely no problems whatsoever. I hang LARGE heavy double sided cotton rugs and hall runners (also rugs) when wet and The rods have not bent or broken. I 'rope burned' one of the plastic pulley housings by pulling it fast at an angle with two heavy rugs on it, but it still works fine and it was MY Fault not the lift. They were one of the best investments I have ever made. I actually want a third to put under the carport so that I can hang more of my laundry up for longer on wash days. breeze dried sheets smell SO good. and everything is OUT OF THE WAY when drying!! I love these things. I also use a spin dryer (Spins water out at 3000 rpm - not air dryer) and good sheets are usually dry in 90 degree weather in less than 30 minutes. highly recommended.

Bars aren't far enough apart to allow for really good air flow during humid times
I use this frequently, but sometimes the pulleys are a little hard to lock. The bar will slip down occasionally on on side when loading it up with laundry. Bars aren't far enough apart to allow for really good air flow during humid times, but I use a lot in the winter.

3 of 6 rods do not lock well; defeats whole purpose!
Installed it 2 days ago. Sorry folks but this is not worthy of 5, 4, or even 3 stars. The main problem is with the catching mechanism. It is very finicky and only 3 of the six rods/cords lock with any consistency. One of the 3 problematic rods doesn't lock at all. I followed the (the way too small and incomplete) instruction booklet's advice and left the cords loose for a couple days and have had to get my ladder out 5 or 6 times to fetch the cord end from the ceiling and re-thread it through the pulley because the locking mechanism gave way and the rod came down to the floor. I gave up with that and put up the cord holder on the wall so that it, at least, can keep the rods from crashing down. Unless I'm mistaken, the whole point of this apparatus is to allow someone to raise and lower laundry and since half of the mechanism does not do that well, I feel generous in giving it 2 stars.A secondary problem is that we have 10ft ceilings and the cords are not long enough to lower the bar to a convenient height for attaching laundry. If we lower the bar to a nice height the end of the cord gets too high to reach it to pull it down and, thus, raise the bar back up. I've had to drill holes in the bottom of the child protection pieces and run extensions out the bottom in order to get long enough play in the cords. since I can't count on the locking mechanism to hold the bar at any point along its trajectory, I've had to buy cheap drawer knobs to tie onto the end of my cord extensions so that they can be slotted into the cord holder on the wall. With all this jury rigging we might be able to use this thing! Not what I expected when ordering a 5-star device!

A real space-saver!
I had seen ceiling racks like this one in Europe, but had to go online to find some here in USA.This one is sleek, and the dimensions are small enough to fit my cramped laundry room -some others are too long. You'll also need extra space to clear window hardware and doors, especially with the "curtain" of cords coming down one corner. Plan out the space before installation. For me, this wasn't a do-it -yourself installation, but could be for others. My ceilings are extra-high, and that presented another problem besides installation:the cords needed extensions added (which I did.) Easy enough, but now I must be extra-carefulso they don't tangle.Even so, the rods glide up/down easily on mechanisms like a window shade. It's modular: use as many/few as you need. The system works for draping large itemsover the rods and for using hangers from the rods. This laundry lifter is a terrific space-saver. And it's ecological - the clothes dryfaster in the warmer air at the ceiling.

For Heaven's sake, MAKE room! You will love this!!
I bought this item two years ago, after moving and having to leave our other one behind. It is truly wonderful and from time to time I have thought of going in to business and producing them myself! I have had this type for 15 years (having lived Italy where they are easily found and revered ( few dryers). I would be rich if I had a dollar for all the times people who "toured" my house, wanted to get one. (Didn't always have the space, etc.) Who doesn't have the space? MAKE space, as Miss Piggy would say! We took down 4 wall cabinets in our miniscule laundry room, and mounted this to the celing instead, directly over the W&D. Having NO space leftover for bottles of detergent, or bleach, I asked my husband to carve out a nitche between the studs, skim it out, and place the products in there, to the left of the entryway, and opposite the W&D. Worked like a charm. I will say that around the corner, we have a large cupboard with huge bottles and refills. But really, all I have in my laundry room are the washer and dryer and the drying rack! I am lost without my drying rack, I WAS till we bought this new one.. Love it, do yourself a big favor.

Excellent Idea, Horrible Product.
Excellent idea, horrible execution. I bought two. I hanged them and tried to use them for a month. The sicks would not stay put. Had to through all away.
