Sharp and accurate
After using many hole punches and arch punches over the years, finally splurged and bought this set so glad I did. It’s so much more than just a hole punch This set because of the stacking cutters can make washers out of soft gasket materials and other things cutter seem very sharp and hard. Haven’t even had to hit this with a hammer for most softer gasket materials a firm push of the hand and a slight twisting action is enough to cut through most materials. Also believe I could put this in a small arbor press for heavier things, and not risk beating it up by hitting it with a hammer Although this was the design it doesn’t seem to be necessary for everything I’ve thrown at it if you need to accurately cut, gaskets and make seal washers for various things in this size range this sets for you one last thing before I close this out it would be nice if there was a spring loaded pilot that could be put in the center to pick up on existing holes to enlarge them. I may even make one for this set because I like it so much but because the handle is removable, you can put a pick or probe down through the adapter to help center on a hole other than that solid all the way around

Worth the Investment
This is a great tool to have. It is worth the investment if you punch a lot of holes! Great quality, solid, heavy, and will last you forever.I got this as I make leather goods and the desire to make clean cut every time improves production time as I do not have to assess if the outcome is acceptable. I already know that the result is good all of the time.

yes its more expensive, yes its worth it
Not long ago I needed a gasket punch. Like I suspect a lot of people do, I bought another brand of punch here on amazon because it was much cheaper and I thought 'all it does is punch gaskets, I dont need anything nice to do the job'. This is bad logic. I bought one of the $40 sets. It arrived with cutting blades that had burrs on the edges. At first I didnt consider this to be a big deal because again 'its just gaskets' but the burrs make it so the gasket doesent seperate cleanly from the stock. The much bigger problem I ran into was how to center the middle hole in the gasket blank. I tried several approaches, from pre punching a center dot in the gasket material, to ink dot indicating center. None of those resulted in properly centered middle holes. If you have to save money, those methods do produce low quality non centered gaskets. I also learned to punch gaskets with a plastic cutting board on a solid surface, not on top of a piece of scrap 2x4 wood. At some point I decided I needed something that produced more repeatable results for the time and effort expended. Then I bought this set. It arrived with nice sharp smooth blades and the center punch is perfectly centered on the exterior punch. "if" you figured out how to accurately center punch with the other style punch, this 2 punches in one shot will outperform in volume production with no comparison. I needed a bunch of gaskets and they needed to be uniform. For me there was no comparison between the two products. I bought both but I am happy with this set.

Makes a perfect hollow-center gasket in one strike--most of the time.
This is one of my favorite tools anymore! I maintain and build brewery equipment and I'm constantly replacing gaskets. As our brewery is located way out in the boonies, buying a gasket means days of waiting for it t get here. But now I just grab ol' Mayhew and a sheet of Viton and hammer away!Perfect concentric gaskets every time. The only time it's a problem is when I need something like 9/16" OD X 7/16" ID (just made a half-dozen of these). Both the 7/16 and 9/16 punches mount on the same shoulder of the mandrel, meaning it takes two operations to make he gasket. But with a little 1/8 or 3/16 punch in the center, it's fairly easy. First, punch out the OD. Remove the larger punch and unscrew the 1/8 center punch about one turn. Put the ID punch on. The 1/8" punch will project just enough to use it to center the ID perfectly. The punches are very sharp and have stayed that way for a year now.I use a plastic cutting board for a substrate and silicone spray on the Viton gasket sheet to make super-clean, square-shouldered gaskets. If you don't lubricate a rubber gasket material, it tends to make a tapered cut. A 1 lb ball-pein hammer does the trick every time, but only if I put the cutting board on the concrete shop floor. My stout workbench isn't stout enough, even with 2X4 rails and 1" plywood top.

Worth every penny
These hole punches are high quality and work flawlessly. The cutting head screws onto the handle by hand and comes off easily so that you can remove the plugs that you cut. I wish that I had known about these punches years ago. The centering feature that lets you cut rings is pretty cool too.
