New School Leader Best Heavy Duty Pencil Sharpener for Teachers, Classrooms, Schools and Offices

I'm a middle school teacher and I needed to replace the very old and worn out pencil sharpener already in my room. I did my research, read the reviews, and decided to purchase this one in November 2015.The clamp will not hold it in place. I tried several times and it always came flying off the window ledge. Eventually I just set it on my desk, as the kids need to hold it while using it and it has to be on a lower surface than a counter to allow that. That makes me slightly crazy as kids are always at my desk to use the darn thing.Initially, the sharpener worked exceedingly well, but it's high quality did not last long. Now, in May, it sharpens only to an adequate degree, and is often fickle about the kinds of pencils it will sharpen at all. It has seen a large amount of use, no doubt about it, but it is specifically marketed to classrooms. The thing should be able to withstand at least a school year's worth of use, particularly for how much it costs. I'll fiddle with it this summer to see if I can get it back on track because I don't want to have wasted my own cash for something that couldn't make it through even one school year.

My students broke it within the first month. I've tried but I am not able to fix it.

The sharpener itself is great--super-sharp pencils every time, and deserves 5 stars for sharpening. However, the clamp to hold in on the desk is terrible--it deserves no stars. It never gets fully flush on even a thin, flat desktop, and constantly wiggles and needs readjustment. But the kicker was tonight, when it was loose again, and I tightened everything up as far as it would go, started sharpening, and the whole works let loose, flew off the desk, and when I picked it back up again, it no longer worked properly--the feed bar seemed at an off angle, and would no longer pull the pencil into the sharpener. Attempts to do so by hand didn't work, either, because I don't have 3 hands. I am returning it, and debating whether I buy another (because, again, it's the best sharpener I ever had, despite its delicacy) and use Liquid Nails to attach it permanently to the desk. I won't trust that clamp again.

Not very good with colored pencils (the colored tip breaks inside), but it does an AMAZING job of sharpening pencils!

I will probably throw it away and buy something else. Three issues:1) You have to push the two spring loaded levers at the top to get the pencil and hold it. This is fine, but you end up having to do this multiple times to get the pencil in further for one sharpening session if that pencil is really dull. I.e. sharpen once, then push the spring levers to get the pencil further in, then crank to sharpen again. Annoying.2) The clamp that comes with it to clamp it to a desk is flimsy and quickly comes loose when you are sharpening a pencil. I've tighted it back down tight no less than 3 times in the first two days.3) In the first week, the metal front actually comes loose from the black container, I push it back on the sharpener, and then it pulls out again.

Really great pencil sharpener. 4 stores instead of 5 for 2 reasons 1) it is small, and the shavings holder fills up fast and 2)there is no option to just sharpen a little. This pencil starts at one spot and sharpens the same amount every time, it seems. But is the sharpest point I have ever seen on a wooden pencil! Everyone that tries it loves this pencil sharpener.

Sharpens very well. Design modification needed to stop handle from coming out so easily. Otherwise it would have five stars
