VERY good machete
In my opinion, the Ontario military style machete is the best you can find for the money. Cheaper ones are of inferior steel, and better ones cost significantly more. The quality is very high (high enough that Ontario makes machetes for the US military) and the price isn't much more than some of the ones you can buy at the box stores made with metal that won't hold an edge, and/or bends. This is the heavy duty longer version than the standard military one, which makes it better for heavy weeds and brush, but will tire you out faster than the standard one on light cutting, like tall grass. Very well made, and very heavy duty. I'm 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, and most of the when cutting brush, I wear out before it dulls.Keep it sharp, and it will cut 2" brush and branches with one strong swipe. The handle is just big enough that someone with size XL hands like me, can use both hands for the occasional extra strong swing. Not big enough for regular 2 handed use.

It's not indestructible, but it's hard to kill.
I wasn't sure what to expect from a $20 machete. I knew the Ontario name, but still... $20? First thought was that the blade looked a little thin. I didn't have much faith that it would keep an edge. However, after putting a razor sharp edge on it I found it kept the edge no matter what kind of abuse I put it through. Its got a really nice feel in the hand, great weight, nice balance. It quickly became my favorite machete and went with me on all my salvage yard trips. Then one day... Clink! The blade snapped about in the middle. Ontario offered to replace it under warranty if I sent it back to them, but I had grown pretty attached to the blade and carved handle I had fit it with, so I instead polished the remaining blade, cut it, treated it, and turned it into what is now my favorite Bowie knife. I've just ordered the same machete to replace it, and will do the same again should this one break. As far as machetes go, this one will give you the best bang for your buck out of any other one you could choose.

and made possibly of a better cutting steal from what I saw
Heavy duty machete. Shipped fast and as described. I have both this one and one slightly smaller. I have to say of the two, I do prefer the one that's 5-6 inches smaller. The smaller Ontario is a little lighter, a bit more flexible, and made possibly of a better cutting steal from what I saw. I believe this is 1065 carbon steal and the other is 1095. Both are definitely heavy duty machete's built to last. This one you definitely need a strong heavy hand to use ,and it also needs a better sharpening.

American made heft.
This is the best machete ever made....if you are comfortable with a machete. If not get something lighter and shorter to start with. Your shins and your wrist will thank you. At this size and weight it nearly takes the place of a hatchet.

It's a machete.
I gotta say it's a good machete. I've used it to cut small brush all the way up to 5 in diameter logs for camp wood. I've put it through some good abuse, it's held up, and I still use it. Not much more to say.

it's nice and hefty - thick strong blade
it's nice and hefty - thick strong blade. the only thing is that the handle sucks. it's square and there's not enough handle width for a sure grip. it flips to the side flat-ways in my hand when i hit a bush and it doesn't feel too good. DEFINITELY don't go with the handle guard version - it flips sideways and the guard hits the knuckles - and that hurts. if you can fashion another handle then it'd be a good fit.

Functional and inexpensive
Good useable machete for the price.

Quality is good, but came with no edge
No edge whatsoever on this machete so has to be sharpened, unlike the 12 inch machete I got from Ontario, which came with a pretty decent little edge/ grind on it, But oh well, I sharpened this machete with my 1x30 belt grinder to solve the problem, I made the grind deeper and deeper, now this machete cuts allot like a super razor sharp sword... chops very deeply into wood, Cuts through light brush and branches by just moving the blade extremely lightly, And I'm only like 40% done with grinding this machete or less, The grind is not even 1 inch deep yet and it's insanely good, Yeah Def my advice to you is to buy a 1x30 belt sander, and say to hell with people with 600+ dollar knives and choppers, and coming from someone who own such blades as well... uhh yeah, This machete I sharpened is more effective and more sharp than I think anything I own besides extreme stuff like a large high quality felling axe, and a Nepali khukri sword made in Nepal, which is also much more massive than this machete.... these machetes are perfect for turning into a performance chopper because they are already kinda thin and flat, If i was to finish this machete completely and have a over 1 inch deep convex grinder that is fully polished and sharpened, it would cut like an advanced trick cutting blade for light targets, Yet could also chop into heavy hardwood targets..., I already have the edge quite lean and it holds up very well to chopping wood... So yeah if you put in a bunch of hours in total grinding time, probably over 10, more like 20+(probably longer) with polishing included, you'll come out with a product equivalent to a 1500+ dollar performance chopper. But really though I own allot of blades and have done a fair amount of chopping, and this machete I ground cuts better than or as good than allot thicker more expensive blades that I have. So I guess the 4 stars is because this machete is so cheap, and the quality of the steel seems incredible for the money spent. The handle is decent, certainly much better than some other machete's which have a unbearable pointy and sharp edged and cornered handle, i have had much worse, this machetes handle is way better and more acceptable than some out there. Also this thing has a really crazy Point of Balance, it is far away from the handle, like 8 inches or something away from the handle, which makes up for not being as thick of a blade(at the spine), definitely., but even than, for a machete, this is thicker and heavier Overall than allot of machetes.
