Far Better than Expected
This desk lamp and speaker combo meets two needs I had - I needed a better desk lamp and I wanted a good Bluetooth speaker for streaming music without needing headphones. I was not prepared for the size of this lamp and I was not prepared for the quality of the speaker. Overall this is a far better product than I could have imagined.I will discuss the lamp and speaker aspects separately.First off, this lamp is large - from the pictures in the product description page I was expecting a lamp that was maybe 12" tall, plus about 2" for the speaker. But instead, this lamp is twice that size and when the arm on the light is extended it is huge. It is large enough to provide coverage over my whole kitchen table which is an accomplishment for most lamps.This lamp has three brightness settings and all are activated by touching the silver base that attaches the light to the speaker. The first and dimmest setting is still quite a bit of light, enough to serve as a bright nightlight or as a dim study lamp. The middle brightness setting is sufficient for reading and casts enough light to study by comfortably. The brightest setting is enough to light the largest room in my basement and a good portion of the hallway (seriously).I like the fact that the lamp is hinged in two places and can be adjusted to cast the light differently based on that.The speaker is a whole different animal on its own. I turned it on and my computer immediately saw it so I paired and connected. I then started streaming music to it and was stunned - the sound quality is far and away better than I expected. It covers the sound spectrum well, with solid bass, warm midrange and excellent highs (‘s’ does not sound like ‘th’). Some speakers over emphasize the bass and squelch the highs but this one keeps it a lot more balanced.The speaker has four buttons on it - power/connect, volume up, volume down and skip forward. These work as expected. That said, this speaker is capable of high volumes and it does so without distortion, but it sounds just as good at lower volumes too so I keep it low. The volume controls are smooth and graduated so getting the volume right is not hard.This lamp and speaker combo is better than I expected in a few ways. It is certainly larger, the lamp casts a huge amount to light and the speaker is of high quality.
