Original Montgomery Men's Merino Wool Submariners Sweater

When I received the order, it came with a few holes in it. Amazon refunded a small portion back to me for the defect as I was going away and wanted the sweater for my trip. (Thank you, by the way)The people in the other reviews are right, it does come slightly larger than the indicated size. The elasticity of the collar doesn't not stay too long, and I had to use a string to tie it underneath the neck so it wouldn't be so droopy after just one week. Still was able to manage for a few weeks.Here is my MAIN issue with it though: there doesn't seem to was a good way to wash the sweater, even ONCE without COMPLETELY ruining it. Instructions say to "hand wash/air dry", basically don't use any machines. The problem when washing it is that it soaks up so much water and becomes so extremely heavy, that there is no way to hang the sweater on a drying rack or hanger without it stretching out to the size of a dress. Contact with water made the bottom of mine go past my knees, and the collar got so baggy it was ruined entirely.And then if you want to somehow shrink it back to the regular size, (I wouldn't/didn't go NEAR any kind of dryer) it is extremely sensitive to any kind of temperature or wetness, and then it becomes too oddly shaped.Sadly, after less than 2 months, I now have an overpriced POS sweater that has the shoulder lining that going past my elbow, sleeves that come up too short on the wrist by 2 inches, and the bottom just above my belly button (I'm 5'10", 170, average/athletic build). In the current condition, this sweater after just ONE wash wouldn't look good on anyone. I want my money back

I absolutely love this sweater; it is beautiful , warm, and so well made. I am a woman, but I took a chance and ordered the small mens for myself when I read a review on the womens submariners sweater stating that the sweater was not long enough for the buyer. I am 5'9" tall and weigh 135 pounds and I am quite long waisted. The sweater fits me very well (not form fitting, but not loose, either) and reaches about 8 inches below my natural waistline and the sleeves reach to about the middle of my hands, but can be pushed up if necessary. I can wear my silken long underwear tops with it, or even a flanned shirt if I wanted. I have wanted one of these sweaters for a long time and it does not disappoint. It is the deepest lovely midnight blue, and it is also so functional and warm that I am not one bit sorry that I paid so much for a sweater for myself. I will wear it mostly with jeans, but it would pair very well with a long skirt also. I would purchase it again in a heartbeat!

Too small (short length) and oversized neck.

The problem is in the sizing. I ordered a XL and received what I can only describe a an XXLL. I don't feel that I can comment on the quality - I was chagrined about the sizing!

This sweater is everything I wanted it to be. Handmade to last for years. Handwashable with reinforced stitching. Just right for harsh New England weather. Vary happy with this purchase.

It's taken 40 years to wear out my old submariners sweater. This new replacement is the absolute same quality as the old one. It is perfect for Seattle's winters and seaport.

Love this Submariners jumper and well worth the extra money that you spend on it. It is classy, warm, hard wearing and I can't wait until they have my size in Navy as I will be ordering another one then. As regards to size & what other people had said, I am usually a medium to large and after reading other reviews that said this is a large jumper overall I opted to try the small size and this fitted me perfectly. I also checked the size chart on the official Montgomery website which was more accurate.I would recommend this Submariners jumper by Montgomery to my family & friends as well as anybody looking for a good warm jumper on Amazon.

Beautiful, soft and very warm sweater. Since Amazon's size charts are general i checked Original Montgomery's home page and sure enough they stated S=chest size 42", on Amazon it's S=36-38"! I'm a typcal size M but here i chose S because of the info from Montgomery's site and sure enough S was perfect, very happy with the looks & quality - and quickly delivered too!

I doubt you will need any other type of jumper.It is machine knitted merino wool with no defects that I have found. The knitting is strong and the end product thick, warm and water resistant (splash it and the water doesn't soak in, get it rained on and it doesn't absorb the water). I am sat here wearing it now.Not sure what more you would need from a review other than... I rarely spend money on clothes and when I do I look for quality at a low price, which doesn't always work out. I reckon this is the most expensive item of clothing I have bought in a long time and I bought it simply because I will not need to buy one again for many years. I will update this review should it fail but so far, in my somewhat dangerous work, it has come through with flying colours. I know this winter has been mild but being able to be out in it with only this and a t-shirt underneath has been great. I have had some comments that it itches peoples skin, this is a skin defect, not a jumper one. No wonder a natural fabric itches if you've been wearing plastic for years, it's your body adapting.Buy one.

Good - but wrong shape for me. I handed this on to my brother! It fits him well but he is extra large.Slight defect too - a stitch that had slipped. Good job my wife is handy with a needle.It is a nice garment but perhaps order a size smaller for satisfaction.

Brilliant looked the Montgomery site to check size normally medium, ordered small perfect fit,, great quality, if you want the Best buy one.

Wonderful jumper, a delight on the skin and to the touch, both warm and comfortable. Slightly expensive of course (tho' fortunate to order during an Amazon deal !) - but then there is that quality! Highly recommended.

Nicely made, comfortable and very warm.Only minor complaint is sizing/fit.I chose size L for a 44-46 chest and the body of the jumper is about right (if a little generous) and sleeve length fine. However the diameter/circumference of the roll neck itself is a bit too generous. But I would buy another, probably in the same size.

We live in a relatively warm part of France with a short sharp winter, local sweaters more 'fashion' than practical and so bought online. We chose this sweater as it is lightweight compared to really thick jumpers but very very warm.

excellent item,noted at work by colleagues for the quality it is,very warm and comfortable,you get what you pay for(good quality)difficult to come to terms with the washing process-drying it flat?

It is comfortable to wear, fits well and keeps the cold out. I practically wear it all the time at the moment (Jan/Feb).

I always take an XL jumper, and these submariners jumpers are very generous in size, I had no problem changing it for a L, all doe over a 4 day period. Very impressed with the excellent speedy service. I highly recommend the jumper and firm to anyone wanting to purchase one.

The advert only gave sizes "S or XL".We ordered the XL which measured 46 ins.It has been returned as the info gave a "M" which I am sure will be OK.Pity that wasn`t given as a choice which would have saved the return postage.

I bought a size one up on my normal (because of the comments below), and got a sweater that was way to large for me. I think they use the same sizing system as everyone else.
