Not Byrd Inserts
These are NOT Byrd inserts. The product image is of Byrd inserts, under the title it says "Brand: Byrd Tool" and the bullets say "Byrd SHELIX OEM inserts" but what Holbren Tool sent me is decidedly not from Byrd. Genuine Byrd inserts are in the top of the image (they came with the Shelix head), what Holbren sent is below. DON'T BUY FROM HOLBREN!

Perfect
These are Byrd cutters. The same ones that came with the cutter head. And they are sharp!

Awesome
Byrd Tool makes great products. The Shelix is an awesome cutterhead and these knives work great. I’ve done a ton of planing over several years, and only now bothered to rotate the knives. Now it’s back to brand new.One warning: you can not torque down on these knives when you install them. Monkey tight, not gorilla tight. They shatter very easily. I broke two while changing them, even being careful. Make sure you have extras on hand before you rotate the knives!

Wood Turning Tools
Good deal for making your own turning tools. If you're so inclined you can buy the 1/2" steel bar on Amazon, tap it for the screw you're using and you got yourself a tool worth over $100. The handles are glued up scrap wood with a routed square hole and turned to your liking. I'm going to make one for a round cutter and a pointy one as well- these other cutters are available through Eddie Castelin. These tools, ready made, are over $100 each. They make angel hair shavings on bowls.

Direct replacement for Byrd inserts.
I haven’t ran any of these, but they are same size, thickness and same radius as original cutters.

Excellent carbide insert For the do-it-yourself toolmaker
Excellent wood cutting carbide bits and a lot less expensive them the factory replacements. With 4 cutting edges on each bit the ten bits in the pack will probably last me a lifetime. They are very sharp and will peel air tried White Oak with hardly any resistance.

Just as sharp and last as long as cutters 10 times more pricey
Have been using these cutters for a while now. I make my own carbide tools for working on the lathe. These were about 1/10 the price I was paying previously and they stay just as sharp. Very satisfied with these

Good product
Have tried these cutters and they meet all my expections. The price come out to about 80 cents per cutting edge. I had made some of my own tool handles and had purchased like cutters from the big catalog guys and these work just as well for a lot less money.
