... trying to expand our cooking skills and we were recommended this book by a friend
My boyfriend and I have recently been trying to expand our cooking skills and we were recommended this book by a friend. Neither one of us knew much about salt block cooking - this book did a great job of answering the basic questions. Every question I had internally was instantly explained shortly after I questioned it - nothing beats a cook book that helps you understand the basics - it's imperative. I love the way that the recipes are divided into seperate sections. It makes it easy to locate a meal or style based on meal type i.e. appetizer or dessert but also based on food type i.e. cooking vegetables versus meats. The easy layout of the cookbook makes it a contender for one of our favorite cookbooks. As newbies to the cooking arena we found all of the recipes SUPPEEEER easy to follow! They even include notes! Perfection. I love this book and enjoy the quality time it leads to with my boyfriend as we try to do salt block cooking. Everything we've made so far has turned out extremely delicious.

Fantastic Salt Block Recipes!
This book is a cookbook surrounding a really interesting and unqiue way to cook: with a salt block! I bought this because I wanted to see what on earth I could do with a salt block, and I ended up falling in love. The book itself is beautiful, with really wonderful design inside. The book begins with an introduction to salt blocks. The book is honest- cooking with a salt block is hard. However, it also reminds you how rewarding it is. As a beginner with the salt block, I can attest to this! The introduction describes tools for the salt block, how to use the salt block, as well as how to clean the salt block. I would not have been able to cook with my salt block without this well-written and clear introduction. The recipes are in six categories: appetizers; vegetables; meat, fowl and egg; seadfood mains; breads on the block; sweets on salt. The recipes have detailed instructions, which is great for a beginner like me. Many of these recipes include cook’s notes, which include tips and more information. I love these additions! Let me just add- the vegetables cooked on the salt block? A-MAZING. This book will be so beneficial if you want to start salt block cooking, I cannot recommend this enough!

Salty Deliciousness
After discovering the joys of kamado grill cooking, I decided to continue to expand my culinary/cooking palette and skill set. While browsing Amazon I came across this book and, having heard nothing about salt block cooking, decided to give it a try. The introduction gives a great set up for the introductory salt block cooker, and includes some history of the block as well as supplementary tools one may need to satisfactorily cook on salt blocks. Yes, blocks! Fortunately, the book offers advice as to which type of block to purchase, and guides you through the process. The preparation being finished, and my fears having been alleviated, I could now move on to the recipes themselves. The recipes are divided into six sections, and each one is delicious. The book has sections on appetizers, meats, breads, veggies, seafood, and sweet treats (desserts). So far I've tried about 5 savory recipes and 4 sweet ones, and they have all been delicious! I love the salty flavor that the block is able to impart, without allowing it to become overwhelming. No matter the method of cooking, I've done grill and oven, but stove and others are also possible, the food has turned out well-cooked, delicious, and unique. The recipes are easy to follow, detailed, and includes notes and tips as needed. The two authors are clearly food-lovers, and one even went to cooking school and has authored other books on cooking. I would highly recommend this book to those interested in salt block cooking, or cooking in general.

Explore your culinary techniques!
I started reading "The Simple Art of Salt Block Cooking" because it interested me. I'm always interested in different styles of cooking and what they bring to the table, so to speak. My first introduction to salt block cooking was in other cookbook about grilling. I was a little taken aback though. Cooking with salt I get but on a salt block? Would that over-season? After reading, I learned it does not, if you're doing right. Salt block cooking does take some effort. At least in the preparation and that's where it kinda loses me. When cooking with a salt block, temperature is key and good meal hinges on the time spent in getting the block up to proper temp.Don't me wrong, everything made with it looks insanely delicious. One can even chill salt blocks and use them for food display. Just about any food imaginable can be heightened by using a salt block. There are desserts featured like salted pecan turtles and cherry marshmallow chocolate “kisses". I just don't like the idea I could possibly scrap a meal because it was over salted or that I spent good time in preparation and it might be underseasoned. Then again, I'm not that great of a cook and someone else could take these recipes and excel. I will say Jessica Harlan and Kelley Sparwasser put together a good cookbook with great recipes and beautiful pictures. If you're a cook who is not afraid to explore with culinary techniques, salt block cooking is a good road to take.

This was a gift and they loved it paired with a salt block for their use. Really unique ideas in this cookbook but also things for less adventurous eaters.

Seriously over priced. Consider other options.
This cook book is seriously overpriced. Customers can purchase many other cookbooks in this category for less than half the price.
