Deep Water: Rockfax Guidebook to Deep Water Soloing (Rockfax Climbing Guide) (Rockfax Climbing Guide Series)

Well written and covering a lot of places, but it lacks a bit of research
I brought this guidebook in the hope that I could use it to get to nearby crags and find the routes with ease. And, in this respect, the book did not let me down; in true Rockfax style, there is an abundance of handy topos and maps, along with useful information such as which way to swim etc.The main problem for me is that Mike Robertson has just not taken the time to research the individual crags and see what climbs have been set up there. For example, I live in Torquay and one of my local crags is Long Quarry Point. In the book, Robertson mentions the main routes, but fails to include ones that are on websites such as UKclimbing.com or Javu.co.uk, and were first soloed as long as 10 years ago. However, as Deep Water Soloing is still a very young sport, this is the only guidebook that covers the UK, let online my local area. And, whilst there are online guides such as those at Javu.co.uk, they lack topos, and are therefore not very useful to me.So, in conclusion, although this book isn't perfect for an aspiring DWSer, I believe it is worth the purchase for its topos and usual Rockfax presentation, along with the fact that, unless you live outside of the UK, there is nothing else to buy.
