Snow White [DVD]

Great acting and nothing else
This is one of those movies that make you suspect it was done for the tax write-off. Cheap script, cheap sets, cheap cameras. Which is truly tragic, because the acting was fabulous. Everyone did a beautiful job and poured their hearts into the roles. The songs were rushed yet promising, and could have been decent if they’d been recorded with better sound equipment. All in all, not suitable for discerning viewers, and emotionally unsatisfying in the end.

Love this version!
OMG nostalgia!!! I had watched this version about 1,000 times at my aunt's house when I was a little kid and she would babysit me. My cousins and I loved this version and I think we probably saw this before the Disney one honestly. They moved away when I was still young and throughout the rest of my life I had searched for this and asked people about it and NO ONE seemed to know what I was talking about. I started to think maybe I remembered it wrong or something. Finally one year when they came up for a visit I requested she bring her copy with her. (She just recorded it onto a VHS tape off of the t.v.) and I found out it was just called Snow White. So then began my quest searching for it. Never did find it. Finally after almost a year of having Amazon Prime, which is my go to for EVERYTHING it seems, I thought, Amazon has everything, I'm going to search! Sure enough, they have it! I was going to order the physical DVD but the digital copy was cheaper and that way I don't have to worry about the kids scratching it or anything. Plus, I can watch it when we visit together with them if I want to without having to lug it if I go down to where they moved!I've also heard that this version closely follows the original story. I guess the one and done with the poison apple wasn't how the story originally goes so if that's true, I found that very interesting!

wonderful Cannon MovieTale version
It's very rare to have a screen version of SNOW WHITE that tries to stay faithful to the original Grimm Brothers fairytale. This rendition, part of the fabulous Cannon MovieTales series, does tell the story with a faithful eye to the original material.Young Snow White flees into the forest after her jealous stepmother the Queen (Diana Rigg) tries to have her killed. The girl finds a safe haven with seven dwarfs, but her life is threatened once more when the Queen discovers her hiding-place. After several thwarted attempts to kill her, the Queen conjures up a poisoned apple...As in the original Grimm Brothers story, this version depicts the Queen in several disguises trying to kill Snow White, using a tight-fitting bodice, a poisoned Japanese hair-comb, and finally the poison apple.Diana Rigg plays the evil Queen with relish. Nicola Stapleton plays little Snow White, with Sarah Patterson ("The Company of Wolves") playing the older incarnation. The Cannon MovieTales series was filmed--rather economically--in Israel, where producers had access to a wide range of appropriate locations. Most of the films have now found their way to DVD (the series also includes "Hansel & Gretel", "Rumplestiltskin", "Sleeping Beauty", "The Frog Prince", "Red Riding Hood", and "Beauty & the Beast").(Single-sided, single-layer disc).

My long lost, Snow White movie!!! :o)
It's an awesome movie! It was just as I remembered it. Like the other few people who had posted reviews about this movie; my Dad had recorded this for me & my sisters to watch when we were kids (early 90s). We watched that VHS out...until it was so worn that we couldn't play it anymore. We loved, absolutely LOVED this movie! As I got old, I had often thought about it, and wanted to see it. I even tried searching online a couple of years ago (02/03ish) but wasn't able to find it. I knew that there was an episode of the golden girls that one of the little people was on-but I still couldn't find the movie. Recently I was looking on Netflix for it...no such luck & then I started searching & searching & searching & finally found it! Thank goodness! As soon as I found it I purchased it-because it was so near & dear to my heart! I was raving about it constantly to my fiance in the short 2-3 days it took to arrive! Watching it was like going back to my childhood! It was WONDERFUL! My fiance wasn't thrilled about all of the singing-but who gives a woop? So, to anyone who hasn't seen this-buy it! It's fantastic! I'm going to get together with my 2 older sisters & watch it! It will be great! =-) Life is good!

An Overall Decent Experience
Closer to the original story of Snow White in comparison to Disney. Decent music and singing, delightful practical effects, and beautiful costumes. An overall decent experience, save for a few particularly insensitive scenes that made me want to commit unalive, I would say I'd watch it again, given the fact I can easily skip them.

Wonderfull childrens movie
I've looked everywhere to find this one on DVD, wich has been quite troublesome living in Norway. Me and my sisters used to watch this movie over and over as kids. We adored it, and we've been looking for it for years. The same day we got it in the mail, us three sisters sat down in our sofa with wide grins, excited to see if we still would love the movie as much as we used to do 15-20 years ago. Unbelivably enough, we still knew all the songs, even the words wich only shows that this movie really did an impression on us. It was great to see it again, allthough now that we're (supposed to be) grown ups, we couldnt help notice a few funny things here and there. But we love it still, and had a great time watching it even now, so we can all recomend it.

Great Actors
I remember this from my childhood. Diana Riggs as the evil queen. Billy Barty as one of the dwarfs. It's the Snow White story, told well but not with the Disney names of the Characters (probably due to copy right laws) and the same goes for the songs and the script in general. Be careful with little kids during the magic mirror scenes, that might be a bit much for them.

Excellent live-action Snow White
This version of Snow White appears to be a burnt DVD-R which MGM issues when their is a sufficient demand for their classic films. There is no indication of region coding on the cover and this disc plays with no problems in my UK Toshiba Blu-ray player. The picture is non-anamorphic widescreen (but not letterbox). The only extras on the disc are a trailer, audio languages in English and Spanish, and subtitles in English, Spanish and French. As for the film, kids and adults of all ages should love it although it should be stressed that there are a few moments, such as the mirror scenes which could make the very young a bit nervous. Nicola Stapleton as young Snow and Sarah Patterson as older Snow are both excellent but it is Diana Rigg as the wicked stepmother queen who steals the show. If you fancy real actors rather than animation for your Snow White then this version could be just the ticket.
