It's all about taste
Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Totally! Besides being a healthy fat full of the right amounts and balance of Omega 3 & 6, this leaf lard is just yummy. Biscuits and pie crust, if you make them - use this leaf lard and you'll never go back to using any other kind of fat. Also, use this instead of butter for frying up a steak or pork chop. It will take the high heat for a nice sear, but better than that is the taste. I know - the leaf lard has no scent and no real flavor of its own. But you can tell the difference in the flavor of the meat you cooked when fork meets the mouth! It only takes a half teaspoon in the pan, probably even less. I use modern ceramic non-stick frying pans, but find that a bit of fat gives better results in the food. And then there is that feeling of satisfaction, that sense of being nourished, that comes from eating traditional, wholesome foods.

Great stuff, almost done with our first container
Great stuff, almost done with our first container. It is expensive, but assuming you can trust that the product is as described (and I do), it is healthy for you as far as fats go, and tastes good. I use it primarily to fry chicken (no breading, etc., just frying the chicken with only the skin on it in a pan) on stove top. The chicken tastes good! I definitely consider the extra cost worth it to have quality lard without all the bad processes/chemicals that would otherwise make it unhealthy.

Perfect
I never used lard in my life. No one in my family used lard. In an effort to eliminate GMO soy and other unhealthy stuff in the shortening I'd been using all my life, I found leaf lard articles online and read a lot before finally trying this product. I used this with my regular bread recipe and it was perfect. Personally, I was kind of hoping my bread would have a bacon flavor but it didn't lol

Excellent Quality & Healthy
Leaf lard is what the gourmet cooks and bakers use. It's wonderful just love it for baking. Great pie crusts and more. I definately will keep buying it. It's hard to find off the shelf consistently. Sure it's pricey but it's worth it! Everything tastes delicious like grandma's cooking that I remember. Good quality lard regular or leaf is very healthy for you. Just make sure the label says the pork is 100% free-range, just like it use to be generations back.

Did a side by side compare to the one I bought at the grocery store and there was definitely a better flavor in the one made with Proper Foods
All lard is not created equal. Some adds zero to the flavor of your baking. That was not the case with this. Made 3 hand raised pies with this tub and not a one had a soggy bottom. Did a side by side compare to the one I bought at the grocery store and there was definitely a better flavor in the one made with Proper Foods. The price however is oftly high for what it is. That is my only complaint - not about the product but at that price.

If you want flaky biscuits and pie crusts without any ...
If you want flaky biscuits and pie crusts without any of the heaviness of grocery store lard, this is the ticket. The ultimate upgrade/replacement for vegetable shortening in all baking.
