I rarely wax on so poetically about a product I truly love. Penaten is this product. I've been using it since I was a child and my own siblings babies.The fieriest diaper rashes and worst prickly heat have a silver bullet: Penaten cream. Take it from a mom with sensitive skin, this thick, white cream is next to magic.Why this wonder solution isn't available in the United States is beyond me, but I make a pilgrimage to Canada every few weeks to buy another two tins for my son and my personal use. Though widely marketed in Canada and Europe as a baby cream, Penaten serves multiple purposes: to soften calluses, moisturize deeply cracked skin, protect cuticles and blisters formed by sandal straps, and so much more. Its formula tackles the worst skin irritation, cuts, and chafing. My sensitive skin doesn't flare up thanks to a lack of excessive additives and perfumes found in other lotions.Penaten comes out extremely thick. A little goes a long way; just a dab will do for all but the toughest jobs. When dealing with diaper rash, I apply a light coating to the affected area and then more directly onto the diaper itself. The cream soothes and immediately relieves itchiness, then continues to moisturize for several hours. When nothing else works, Penaten gets results. Bleeding, raw rashes respond effectively. We use this religiously in my household when baby's bottom starts to look red or feel hot. For extra effectiveness, we put extra on him for his overnight diaper. Every morning, the redness is substantially diminished if not completely gone. For my own cracked hands, slathering on the cream on the affected area and wrapping my hands in warm washcloths does wonders.A&D ointment and Desitin don't hold a candle to Penaten for me, and I've used them as well as other samples. Penaten is far creamer and smoother in texture, mildly scented, and far more effective on all fronts. To each their own, but I wouldn't travel five feet from the house without a small tin in the diaper bag. Consider it an essential.

I bought this to treat my dog's chapped jowels / lips.My dog is a Rottweiler / lab mix and also has some shephard in him I think.I noticed that at the very corners of his large, shephard-like mouth, he had some chapped areas, some parts badly chapped a little bit like an exposed blister. It was even a little infected. It was hard to notice. First I cleaned it and applied a cannabis-extract dog salve that is made for dog skin problems. That salve has previously worked on all the hotspots on his skin and was good at sealing in moisture and non-toxic and safe for him to lick. However, it didn't work that well for his jowels because it's really moist in that area and difficult to treat.I found out about this product by searching the internet. It is German baby cream. It's made in Germany by the Johnson & Johnson corporation. I guess they bought it from the original German makers.My wife said it smelled like Nivea. I thought it had a very pleasant smell. It is basically German baby cream. All of the wording on the tin are in German and here my German major finally came in useful. It says that it is good for treating skin irritations and sealing in moisture and good for babies because it provides a "visible" layer of protection. This visible part is important because I can see that the white cream it is still on my dog after about an hour or so, I know he is not licking it off. The picture shows how it looks with the cream applied and stays on like that for at least a few hours.It does a very good job of treating the chapped part and it providing a layer of vaseline-like protection on the the very chapped part.My dog licked at it minimally the first time I put it on but after that, he never licked at it again. That was good because it stayed on there most of the day after one application. He seemed to like that is soothed the problem. Within a few days, his jowels are no longer chapped. I was concerned about him ingesting the cream although it seems to me that the ingredients of the cream are not going to cause harm in very small amounts.I'll probably have to use this again if it flares up but so far very happy and I'll update with any interesting developments.Ingredients: Petroleum, Zinc Oxide, Lanolin, Talc, Panthenol, Hamamelis Virginiana Bark/Leaf/Twig Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana Water, Allantoin, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Cetylpyridinium Chloride, Paraffinum Liquidum, Helianthus Annus Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Alcohol, Perfume, CI 40800

This order was placed because my husband remembered it's use while growing up. Being from Germany, he recalled his mother using it.It quickly takes the heat and discomfort of many rashes, and provides barrier from wetness.It even helps with skin problems caused by fleas on pets.

The smell, the box, the feel of this cream is something that I always associate with my childhood. Growing up in Europe, I was taught first hand that German - made products were the epitome of excellence. This statement absolutely applies to this product. I have had sensitive skin since childhood and my mom had used Penaten cream on me since birth. She tells me that I used to bring it to her when I thought that I needed it for anything and it would travel with me when we would go to summer camps from kindergarten or school.Today, I use it on both my children when they have diaper rashes, drool rashes or any kind of skin irritation in the creases of their skin (neck, arms, armpits, thighs, groin etc.) I even used it between my daughter's toes when she had a skin irritation from water not drying between her toes after bath. It needs usually max of two application to clear an irritation. It does not seem to have quick effect if any, for eczema or yeast infection (it is not a panacea LOL) but the cream soothes dry skin. I use it on myself for dry elbows during the Winter.It lasts forever as you need to use very little at a time. The expiration is 36 months after opening the seal.

This cream is amazing! We ordered it when our baby was having a nonstop rash that would not go away for anything! We saw this recommendation on a mom group and ordered it. When I tell you, it cleared my baby’s rash up instantly! I recommend this product over any of the US brand diaper creams. You can also use it for adults, my husband is a mailman so his legs chafe often and he uses this occasionally to help!
