A great chronological account of Indian history and notable events.
To put it concisely, Triumph Amidst Crisis is a record of chronological events from the author's life from the very small, personal scale to the huge, international scale and how the big scale events impacted the small ones. All in all, the book was a great read for me with the heavy Indian context as well as the aspect of relatability in some cases. The author has a good understanding of the subjects he discusses about, and is able to convey it well with lucidity. Complex economic and political matters were thrown light on with a fairly comprehensible language. The first half was quite an intriguing section with the childhood stories which introduced the relatability element. The historical, economical, religious and political accounts throughout the book were majorly informative and thought-provoking. For me, learning about the Chinese culture and how globally impactful whatever they do is, was new and I now have a different outlook towards it. Several chapters like that of Cricket, the Mumbai Attacks and the gradual Indian advancement throughout the text hit close to home. At the later second half is when we get events prominent in the author's life that have an inherently optimistic nature and is sure to boost your motivation exponentially. The book started on a great note and ended on an even greater one. I give this book a 4 star rating since it proved to be a good and wholesome experience because of a personal connect with subjects of national importance and the in-depth delving into rather esoteric topics. Although there were places of a subtle bias, that can be overlooked considering a first person view of the events. I would, no doubt recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about India and its culture and all its major vicissitudes in the last four decades. There are also brief footnotes to any jargon in the text to add reference to the uninitiated.

I Keep Going Back to This Book
What Tarun has created here is not just an amalgamation of facts, but lived experiences. I got to see the world through another lens. The author is incredibly well-read, has extensive first-hand experience of other cultures, and a very kind, empathetic and constructively critical outlook.I have learnt SO much ever since I've had this book in my hands. I keep going back to it, because something or the other happening in the world today, reminds me of a paragraph, a page or a chapter in this book. The best thing about the author is that he is open to debate, to a difference in opinion, and you can see him accommodating the lenses of others in his book. I don't see a lot of emerging writers doing that. It's always the same old one-sided, narrow ideas that are elaborated upon.In one of the starting chapters, Tarun actually uses a motorcycle as the image of the middle-class man, the image of a generation, a mindset, and a history in itself. That is the extent of his genius. I hope that he continues to write, to read, and to put out more of his thoughts because they are a true gift to behold. If you're wondering why you should buy his book, then let me leave you with one last thought: It has emotional explorations compiled with political insight (especially in his experiences in his ancestral village). It decodes politics, politicians, policies, cultural codes, and much more— all under one book. And you will be AMAZED at how one connects with the other. This book has truly been a revelation for me, and as an ardent reader, I genuinely believe that the Universe has great things in store for the author. :)

Must read
Analyzing the structure of the autobiography , the way writer arranges the childhood around and the historic events, facts are emphasized and are concealed. Take into consideration the style of the narration is outstanding .There are gaps in the facts and events that has splendid the logical order of narration. The most important event and remarkable accomplishment in the writer’s life was Ironman Triathlon as not many of you might not know about it . Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races , consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle ride and a marathon 26.22-mile run, raced in that order. It is widely considered one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world.Specific word choices made in the book reveal much information about the writer and his will to represent his life experience was marvelous .The language used is so simple and self-representating .Must read for everyone who is interested in the historic moments of India from 1980's to 2000's .

This could be your next quintessential book on India
Politics is always a very tricky topic to talk or write about especially in a country like India where people take extreme pride in their political and social observations. The beauty of this book is the balance with which every topic or incident has been depicted to show all the sides and address it in a very factual manner.India has always been a country of complex history and this is a great attempt to connect the dots of some of the major incidents which have impacted the evolution of India’s current political and social scenario. The chapters are concise, sharp, and well paced giving you no opportunity to lose track. The author’s personal experiences and anecdotes are thoroughly refreshing. This book is for you if you want to understand the different kinds of dynamics which function in this beautifully complex country ‘India’. And you are bound to enjoy it irrespective of whether you are new or already an expert in the subject. It’s a highly admirable debut by the author and I am only excited to read the next one.
