Lots of misinformation here!
Please ignore the comments from those who have read one or two articles and decided they're experts.I am by no means one myself, so I suggest looking at trusted sources like medical journals, nutritionists, and the companies who have been operating in Peruvia for decades. The consensus seems to be:1. This is not 'raw' in the same sense as eating the plant from the ground and is perfectly safe to consume as it is. It has been thoroughly cleaned and dried.2. Cooking / heating it does NOT destroy It's nutrient content and in fact, has been shown to increase some of its benefits.3. Some people (est 1/10) are sensitive to the starch in maca, so can experience some digestive distress. That's not dangerous and should improve when eaten cooked, but it can cause upset stomach.4. Most health benefits have not been well-studied. It almost certainly has some, and would be a good addition to most people's diets - but it's not a magic cure all.Overall, I find the taste quite bitter and will try gelatinized maca next (nothing to do with gelatine and suitable for vegans), which is apparently much sweeter and arguably better for your digestion.1 teaspoon in oat milk, with 2 teaspoons cacao, and 1 teaspoon maple syrup, makes a lovely hot chocolate though!ETA - Unfortunately as I suffer with Graves disease, I have had to stop eating maca. It is not good for those with overactive thyroid and caused palpitations.Still safe for everyone else! But worth noting, I as was unaware.

Good taste. Good value.
Although maca is a root that belongs to the radish family it is actually quite sweet, and I found the flavour of this brand to be very pleasant which made it much easier to take - it's a sort of malty flavour. I bought it because it is said to help to balance hormones and to therefore be particularly helpful for menopausal and post menopausal women. It also contains lots of vitamins and minerals and is also said to have some ginseng-like qualities in that it gives you an energy boost. Anyway, one thing is for sure, it has been consumed for many centuries in Peru, the main place of cultivation. I mainly add it to smoothies. I make what I call a 'power smoothie' with banana, maca, cacao powder, ground flax seeds, coconut oil, ground sesame seeds, organic yogurt and whatever else I may feel inspired to add! One thing you should know is not to heat it up otherwise it will lose it's beneficial effects.I recommend this particular product because it represents very good value for money, it tastes good, it's well packaged and it's certified organic. I also found the shelf life to be very good. You can't go wrong really.

The taste is awful if you mix it in coffee
Bought to help balance hormones. Tried it today for the first time mixed into coffee, and it tastes absolutely vile. don't know if I'll be able to get used to it but I'll soldier on for a bit and see. It tastes like old stale vegetables that have rotted. Will try it mixed with various foods/liquids until I find something that makes it palatable.Update - day 2. Tried it today stirred into half a glass of milk and what a difference - tasteless in the milk so much more palatable. You'll need to mix it in like you mix flour into milk instead of the way i did by dumping a teaspoonful into the glass with milk already in it - I had to spend ages getting the lumps out!!
