In 1861 Julius Sturgis, in Lititz, PA, started a bakery where he could refine his recipes and methods for making delicious pretzels. Julius' children also learned from their father how to take a few wholesome ingredients, mix them together, and bake them into tasty treats. Moving forward to today, the tom Sturgis family is still baking pretzels a century and a half later. Millions of Sturgis pretzels have been enjoyed. The year 2011 will mark the 150th consecutive year of the Sturgis family baking pretzels in America.
