Goodness Gracious! I owned an old FoodSaver, which still worked but was old, loud, and heavy. Was looking at getting another one because they've been around and I thought it would be a good choice since I haven't heard of many of the other brands out now. Glad I didn't. They go for a premium price. This Gourmia is light, easy to operate, and does a better job than my old FoodSaver. It gets a lot more air out of the bag. When finished, it looks like shrink wrapped product from the market. It's also not as noisy as my old one. Plus, the FoodSaver had to run suction first before sealing the bag, no matter what. Noisy. With the Gournia you can press the seal button and it seals the end silently. Welcome to the 21st century I guess. I've gone through 2 rolls of bags already ( I vac and freeze a lot of stuff ) without a single hitch. Definitely would recommend this product, especially for the price.

Good stuff, works great! I'm impressed.
This is the one to get!I went through pages and pages of these things on Amazon and Ebay before I settled on this one. It had ZERO reviews when I bought mine, but I liked what I saw, and the company had some good reviews, so I gave it a shot. The design is excellent.First off, you can choose between full auto, or full manual control, or anything in between. You can just hit a button and let it do it all. Or if you're afraid it'll crush something sensitive, you can hit pulse until it takes out the amount of air you want pulled out, then hit seal, and it'll lock the bag. And the seams it creates are thick enough to seal around crumbs or liquid drops.Build quality seems very good. It's a little tough to lock, you have to push down hard, but when it's locked, you know it. It even comes with a little bag slitter that lives inside that works great.I've owned a few vacuum sealers before, and this one is the best I've ever owned. And no, I wasn't compensated, and didn't get it free or reduced. Paid full price, just like you. `

Does not create a complete seal!
I bought this after reading reviews not only on Amazon but also from different articles noting it was the best vacuum sealer that was both affordable and compact. I have been very disappointed so far as it does not appear to seal anything 100%.The first item I tried to freeze was a bag of chicken with a small amount of marinade. I followed the directions and used the "moist" setting. It did suck some of the marinade into the liquid catch tray but this was expected and I didn't mind. My frustration stems from the fact that it didn't seal. I tried making sure the marinade wasn't close to the sealing apparatus and tried again but it still failed to create a seal. I had to use a Ziploc freezer bag.I gave this a second try with a dry item (salmon) but once again, it failed to create a complete seal! It appeared as though it created a seal but upon further inspection, I realized there was a gap. After reading other reviews I found that many people tried to use it and thought they had a seal but after having their food stored for a few days, realized it did not seal 100% and it leaked and spoiled the food.I am using the bags that were provided so I assume this is not caused by using the incorrect bags.I am returning this ASAP as I have read other reviews saying people kept theirs too long and were unable to return it through the manufacturer.

Reasonably priced vacuum sealer, but NO Mason Jar attachments are available by Gourmia
Our old vacuum sealer was giving us problems for quite a while. Lately, like all vacuum sealers, the bag heating element used to sealthe bag was failing and it was only partially sealing the vacuum bag. My wife was frustrated seeing all of the sealing work done only produced bags full of frost in the freezer. You could visually see the seal was not perfected and subsequently leaked when frozen.Started to research replacements. Came across this one on Amazon. What I like:* Price -- significantly less than the one my wife bought years ago* Sealing is much easier today than with the old one that had to have the bag inserted under the vacuum nozzle* The heat seal is wider than our old vacuum sealer - 2.5 mm or 1/10 inch on this model* Per the specifications, the vacuum draw is up to 80% vacuum from 30 inches of mercury* Wet and dry product sealing selection depending on the sealed product in the bag* There is a slower (gentle) and standard vacuum setting for both liquid and dry good and fragile product sealing* There is a manual seal setting, to seal one end of the open bag while empty* The power cord coils on hooks located at the bottom of the unit -- nice for storage* Lightweight, in comparison to our old, clunky unit* An actual printed owner's manual is included -- there is a downloadable PDF copy on the manufacturer's web site* One (1) year warranty* A detachable bag cutter is included, we use scissors insteadImprovable Items* The lid is hard to close at times - has to clip down hard on both sides* When released, the top section of the sealer pops open* Concerned about the sealing gasket life expectancyOverall, this sealer fits the bill perfectly. My wife has got the use down quite well and I am not hearing any further complaints about this sealer. Knowing that makes me feel better that this is the unit for her. With the wife's "seal of approval", I can recommend this unit to you without any reservations. Now, lets see how long it lasts. The old one we had survived 13 years!*******02/10/2017 - UpdateMy wife brought something up today that I never even thought of. She wanted to use this sealer for vacuum packing Mason jars using her old sealer Mason jar kit with vacuum hose. Sounds simple, so I said "go for it" and let's see what happens.3 minutes later, she is yelling for me. Rushing downstairs like something bad happened to her, she was as mad and hyperventilating like a wet hen. Calming her down, I learned that the hose adapter we had from our old unit didn't fit the vacuum port on this unit. Not the end of the world. I told her I will look into it and see what options are available.20 minutes later I had my answer. Yes, this model has a separate vacuum port that supports Mason jar vacuum attachments. Go to the Gourmia website looking for a replacement hose and I learn they do NOT have one. OK, what about a Mason jar kit? Much to my surprise, NO kit. Further, no information on any possible alternatives was available by the manufacturer. Nada, Zilch! So let me get this straight: the manufacturer puts in a separate vacuum port for Mason jar vacuum sealing, but doesn't offer to sell either a vacuum hose or accessory kit to use the incorporated vacuum port? They promote this as a feature, but give you no option to use it!Are we missing something here?We both really enjoy using this sealer. Using it with the vacuum accessories would only enhance the pleasure of using and repurchasing this company's product again when it wears out. With this blatant omission, I will have serious reservations of purchasing any other Gourmia vacuum sealer product come replacement time. Therefore, I am lowering my star rating to 4 stars (we still like it) based on this unbelieveable omission by the manufacturer.*******01/02/2019 - UpdateTwo (2) years of use under our belt.Packaged some leftovers from New years last evening and used this vacuum sealer to get the job done. As expected, this sealer is still going strong.I'm still disappointed in the availability of accessories for this unit, but we have learned to live without them. I hope the manufacturer reads these reviews and takes customer feedback to heart and corrects this deficiency.Let's see how long this unit will last -- two (2) years and counting right now.

Good features, good price
I read the reviews and compared prices, and the Gourmia GVS435 fit the bill. Less expensive models mostly don't have the "moist" option (which does the same thing only slower, so the juices aren't drawn out of the bag, which would mess things up both figuratively and sloppily), and more expensive models seem to only add a) better marketing, or b) higher margins for the upstream supply chain. This Gourmia hits the sweet spot. Works great, looks good, recommended.

Worth the money.
Very pleased. It took me a bit to get the hang of it, but it works great. Worth what I paid for it.
