These are not soft and buttery. They are between hard and soft with a nice edge. Very Happy with mine

I've always heard the opposite, that round is softer than square. Never the less, the Mungyo are one hell of a deal compared to French and German products. Look at Gallery Soft Pastels made by Mungeo; They're like butter. Shop for those at Blick's, Jerry's Arterama and Cheap Joe's as well.

These are medium in nature I have used this set for about a year I too like a softer pastel for finish work.
