Shortens cleaning, but...
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with this box. I wanted one like this so badly, and I went for the cheapest one I could find. There are other versions of this box that appear to work much better, and I suggest looking into those!I bought two of these for our cats, and they were a bit hit lol. With four cats, I am always changing litter, and I thought this would be much easier for me.Pros:Saves litter, or more so makes it so that less litter is being thrown away each time.Shortens cleaning time by a bit--- lift, shake a little, throw away, then reassemble.Cons, or things I find annoying:The holes are just big enough that some things escape to the clean litter portion during sifting. Urine almost always makes it through to the bottom of the pan, so you end up having to scoop it anyway. This also causes old litter to be caked onto the back of the sifter, which may need a scooper to scrape off as well. The hood part, or guard that clips on top of the box doesn't clip down or fit correctly. Not a big deal, but again, annoying. All in all, it is a good box, and I would replace the rest of our boxes with them, but maybe a different brand.

Good to have an extra box
It works well. The urine clumps stick to the bottom so you still need to scrape them out. It’s nice to have a second box to use while you’re cleaning the first one. This makes my cat happy as he is always very concerned when I clean his box. The edge of a corner one box has broke already though so it’s not super durable.

Great, but ignore the instructions
I responded to "MIM" that he/she wasn't using this correctly. But my annual refresh order just arrived, and it's not MIM who is wrong - the instructions are bad.If you keep the "screen" layer on top, you will have problems. And I did for a while at first - ten years ago. Then I figured out that you should let the clumps form in a regular tray. And when you clean, dump that tray into the filter tray. The "unused" clumping litter passes through the filter into the other regular tray. The rest can be dumped into the trash. And sometimes, the clump sticks to the regular tray. Just bump the tray, or use your scraper. If you rotate the trays this way, you can get a year out of a tray set before the surfaces start to corrode. But the process is so much better than the old way. This is still a 5 star, even though the instructions are less than helpful.Again - top tray is a normal tray. Middle tray is the screen/filter tray. Bottom tray is a normal tray. When you clean, pick up the top tray, and dump it into the filter tray (which is on top of the other normal tray). The clumps and solids will now be collected in the filter. Larger clumps will still be attached to the top solid tray. Shake or scrape that into the trash. Then pick up the filter tray and dump that in the trash. What you have left is (pretty) clean litter in the bottom normal tray.Put the filter tray on top of the normal tray that was the top tray, and put the litter-filled tray on top of that. If more litter is needed, pour some in.And once in a while, throw all of the litter away. And, once a year, go to Amazon.com and buy a new setup.

The concept of this box is great and works wonderful
The concept of this box is great and works wonderful. I only gave it 3 stars for the following reasons: (1) The box is too small. My cats are both male and are big boys and it's not roomy enough for them. (2) The cover does not snap on properly; and (3) It would be better if this box had a full hood/cover so that when the cats cover the litter it doesn't end up making such a huge mess. If you decide to make these improvements, please let me know as I will definitely buy it in a larger model with a full hood.

A Real Advancement in Litter Boxes
I was a little skeptical about this litter box, since I really didn't think there was much room to improve on the basic concept of scoopable clumping litter. Was I ever wrong! This is a very simple but very real advancement in litterbox technology. I've had cats for 40 years, and this litterbox is SIGNIFICANTLY easier to keep clean. It takes less than a minute to use. I bought two, one for upstairs and one for downstairs, for use with one cat. There is no odor, as you can clean the box easily, quickly, thoroughly, and much more often than you would if you were merely scooping.TIPS: As other reviewers have noted, keep the screen in the EMPTY pan underneath the box containing the litter. When ready to clean the pan, dump the used litter into the empty pan with the screen in it, lift up the screen, empty the waste, then place the screen into the newly-emptied pan. Put the pan with the now-clean litter on top of the screen in the empty pan.Be sure to keep the litter at a good 3" or 4" depth. This will keep the clumps from sticking to the bottom of the pan. These have a nice deep pan so you can keep the litter at a good level, and the litter guard is an additional 5" high and really works to keep the litter from getting kicked out of the pan.I wholeheartedly recommend this, it isn't just a gimmick to suck more money from pet owners, it really does make a significant difference in keeping a cat's litterbox clean.UPDATE 11/20/2014: I've now owned this litter box for 3 years, and they are still going strong. I have not had any problems at all with the plastic cracking. Works like a champ!
