Great Printer! Fast and Looks Good Too!
I have had a great number of printers over the years. HP, Samsung, Epson, Canon, and now this Brother printer. So far, this is the best printer I've owned. Very fast printing. Especially for multiple pages. Great print both black and color. I have 1 color print label that the colors don't seem to be correct. But everything else is great! In the listing it lists just 'Print'. But this faxes, scans and copies as well. Now sure why these features are not listed in the comparison chart.I do a lot of printing and I like the idea of less expensive ink. Ink costs can cost a fortune. We'll see if this pans out. I've already done a lot of printing and the original cartridges are still going. Preliminary looks good for saving on ink costs. The 2 different trays did not work as I assumed they would. I thought I would be able to manually select either tray as needed. Not so. There is no 'Manual Select' provision. Instead, paper size determines which tray is automatically selected. So if you have the same size paper in both trays (as I do). You'll always get tray 1. I run standard paper in Tray 1 and shipping labels in Tray 2. Fortunately, my shipping software allows me to choose which tray I want to print from. None of my other print jobs allow me to choose a tray. For these I simply load shipping labels into Tray 1 or into the rear feed tray in the back. Fortunately, About 95% of my label printing is with Stamps.com which does allow me to choose the tray.

Printing quality is terrible
We got this printer 8 months ago and it is HORRIBLE. We have already had to call customer service several times due to printing issues. At least once a week it will print out with lines missing then we have to go through the cleaning process (sometimes through 2 or 3 cycles) and this is something we have to do WAY to often for something that is still new. In addition to the general cleaning cycles the macine automatically does about 2 to 3 times a week. I would definetley not recommend this printer for an office setting. I cant express enough how disappointed I am in this machine.

Short life, warranty service is horrible
Print quality was adequate. I was never able to get the duplex printing to work. After 2 years of having it, the ink absorber was full and the printer would not allow printing anymore. I have never heard of an ink absorber with any other brand of printers, so I am not sure if that is specific to Brother or not. The printer was still under warranty. It took several calls to Brother, waiting on hold a minimum of 30 mins each time to find out that the ink absorber could only be changed by an authorized service provider, the closest one to us was 75 miles away. Brother did not offer to ship the printer, I had to take it to the service provider. What it would cost me to take time off and drive 150 miles round trip for two trips to get it repaired is not worth it for that printer.

Nothing flashy, but does all its jobs very well
I hesitated on buying this because several reviews mentioned the printer dropping out of the network. So far, no problems like that. In fact, it is quick to come out of sleep and print from any source anywhere in the building. I gave up on HP printers a long time ago because there were always software problems. So I switched to Epson and was very pleased with them - until I started printing less. Then I ran into the problem of the print heads clogging - which I discovered is a known issue with Epson. So, I'm finally getting around to Brother. I had no problems installing the printer - got it up and running in a short amount of time - and it has been performing without problem since. I wouldn't say it's exactly "sipping" ink, but it does seem to be a little less thirsty than other ink-jet printers. It does a great job of scanning double-sided documents to a pdf. Problems: The first was my fault - I use a knock off imitation of Word which sets A4 paper as the default instead of Letter, so I was always getting a "paper size doesn't match" message until I found out what was going on. Made the appropriate change in the software and now it works great. Second, for some reason I have to put envelopes in the back tray the opposite direction of the picture. No big deal. I'd highly recommend this printer. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because there's nothing flashy about it. It just does its job well. I guess that should be enough though, right?

Brother MFC-J5930 DW
I have had this machine a little over a year and a half now and am well pleased by the machine itself. It prints well and ink seems to last a while. I bought this for the duplex printing and scanning, but the scanning software that comes with the machine is a steaming pile of crap. I had to get another program to get the scanner to work at all. I have this on a wired network, not using wifi and the scanning program fails to find the scanner every time I try to use it from my Win 10 desktop. I have removed, downloaded and reinstalled the drivers and software so many times, my hard drive screams when it sees me type Brother in my browser. My Win 10 laptop used to work, but now it does the same thing, it won't find the scanner. Printing from both works fine and using Paperport the scanner works fine. I recommend the machine if you have another program to scan from. Brother's tech support is less than helpful, since they won't work with you at all over email, you have to call them and stay on hold until you get disgusted and hang up. The printer itself rates a 5 but since I can't separate printer from software for this review it gets a weak 3.
