So simple it's impossible
In their quest to make this card reader simple to set up, they made it nearly impossible. There are really no quick-start instructions, they tell you to create a profile on the website then come back to the device. The website was hard to use. Many prompts described in the merchant docs were missing or unclear. On-screen instructions were confusing. Every transaction I tried declined, with no further information. Just "declined." All this is probably solvable but their support team only works M-F, which in my experience is not nearly enough for a payment gateway. I sent it back and went with Square, who seems much more together.

Do not deal with them !!!
Well to start with....their service was blocked to all new users....no way to contact..no return to my emails. The one support person I did manage to get told me it could be up to 2 weeks before I could use my account. What kind of business let's customers sit and wait for 2 weeks ? Even now they are signing up people knowing it won't work....why not send out a email and have a notice on webpage...follow up....sumup more or less told me tuff luck...

CONFUSING/HARD TO USE AND EXTENSIVE WAIT TIME FOR ACTIVATION
Thank goodness I also had Venmo for the event I was working. I tried setting up this thing (which, as other reviewers have commented, requires a bit of tech skill to figure out – not *super* difficult, but definitely not intuitive, and the instructions are vague and confusing. To use this thing, you need to set up an account online with Sumup SUBSTANTIALLY prior to using the device. I did not know this. I set up my account four days before the event. Well that event was now two days ago and my Sumup account is still 'pending review' . Reading some other reviews it seems it can take WEEKS for your account to be activated. Plus now I can't return this d*mned thing to Amazon because it's categorized as hazardous materials for some reason.I'm furious. Sumup does claim a 30 day risk free money back policy on their website, so hopefully they will at least honor that. Ugh.

Don't Buy
Don't buy this product. It is difficult to set up and Tech Support doesn't answer the phone. You have to leave a message. If you email them, it takes days for them to get back to you. By the time they reached out to me, my event was over.

Couldn’t get it working
I purchased both a SumUp and Square at the same time. I had square working in 5 minutes. I’ve called SumUp tech support twice already and two days have passed. I will be returning the two SumUp devices I purchased and because of the difficulty I’ve had getting this set up.I do not be recommend this company.
