Nothing but the best from now on.
This pump is something you can absolutely put your full trust in. I had just purchased a replacement bilge pump for my boat. I didn't even consider the fact that it was of inferior quality, Chinese built piece of junk. It wouldn't even self prime. Not the sort of quality you want to put your trust in to keep your boat afloat in the event of a leak. That's when I decided to spend the extra money for the best brand of pump money can buy. The Jabsco Water Puppy is absolutely the best in quality and operation. And it's made right here in the good old U.S.A. I won't ever buy anything less than the best again.

Will NOT operate as assembled
I purchased this item as a replacement bilge pump and after getting it completely installed I put power to it and it did not run. I checked my connection and had 12.6 volts running to the motor but it would not turn. I removed the face plate and hand spun the impeller to free it up as well as added additional lubrication, reassembled it and still nothing. I again removed the face plate and put power to it and it would run. Putting the face plate back on with the screws only hand tight it would run and pump water but the second I put my thumb on the face plate and added pressure it would stop pumping. This is NOT a reliable pump at all!!!

Revised Design
The pump I received was a revised design, with a 0.015" narrower impeller and filled with a lubricating fluid. The design eliminates overtightening of the cover plate and dry start friction. I've used the old design for decades, but clearance was provided by a protruding, hard-to-compress, groove filling, square-cut O-ring, providing the clearance. This presumably was a replacement for an original 0.015" paper gasket. (If this O-ring is compressed well beyond what is needed to seal the pump, the old pump will bind; in that case back off the screws slightly.)

Still going strong.
I'm impressed with the impeller pump concept for bilge pumping. Needs enough voltage to break the stiction of the impellers. Does well with sucking air intermittently with water to draw those last few drops, but the pump head will warm. I cut the hose to the length needed and use a Perko 5/8 bronze strainer as the weight.

Please supply more info on product...
The is a quality pump but I would have bought a different one if I had more info. Please note in your description that this pump should not be hooked up to a washdown hose. You cannot turn the breaker on without having the water flowing. This is an impeller type pump and CANNOT run without water flowing through it. I would recommend this pump for use on a live well, bilge, etc, but not with a washdown hose on the end as it can burn up the impeller as stated in the instructions within the box. The best bet for a quality washdown pump is the Jabsco Par Max 4 4.3gpm. This pump is an on-demand pump so you can have the breaker on and when you need water you just pull the trigger. When the pressure in the hose drops the pump kicks on. This is a diaphragm type pump and can run dry.I hope this saves others time and money.Ray

Defective.
Unfortunately we had ordered this ahead of time and by the time we installed it and found it defective (impeller would not turn) the return window was past. Other reviews state this same issue. So we have to eat the $185. Will order one from Home Depot.
